NCAA tourney field

RPI is basically a useless stat now with the USD and compressed schedule. RPI ranges for conferences get set in week 5 and it' nearly impossible to play yourself up or out of your conferences RPI range.

I would have liked to see how URI would have done...

RPI might be a legit stat for basketball. In basketball you put your best lineup out there vs. foes best lineup. Baseball is so different; a team could be 20-2 when their top 2 guys pitch and 2-20 when they don't. You just don't have that type of deal in football or bkball.

As I took time to read a little the Big 12 thing is ridiculous with Baylor and OSU getting in. Baylor has lost 12 out of 14; OSU didn't make an 8 team bracket (out of 10 teams)

More teams is the only legitimate solution; probably won't happen will it folks?

"It's a very, very strange combination to put four teams together like this on one weekend -- and we all know the story," Virginia Coach Brian O'Connor said after his team practiced Thursday. "No. 1 team in the country, ACC champion, greatest pitcher in the history of college baseball and the defending national champion.

"So if you love baseball and you want to watch talent, this is a pretty good spot to be."

UVA certainly did make a statement today!

They played a very good game. Their starting pitcher pitched very well. So did San Diego States.It will be interesting to see who emerges out of this bracket.

Watch Virginia---they have something to prove after again being sent to the west coast

Virginia is very very good. And they ended the season playing some of the best ball they had played all season. They have a line up that produces 1-9 on any given day and they play great defense. When I saw them earlier in the season I just really liked the way they play the game and they seemed to have great team chemistry.

Looks like Virginia gave Stasburg his first loss. Puts them in the winner's bracket, so best of luck tomorrow.

I heard the announcers during the Marist/FSU game about Rhode Island. Said they were a good team and probably should have made the field. Same thing with Manhattan - who were the season champs but lost to Marist in the tourney.

(I just looked at the score, 16-4 FSU. Tough draw for Marist. It looked pretty good for the first few innings.)

What incredible pitching performances on both sides! Shame it wasn't on TV - better than the basketball, ice hockey and pro baseball we watched while watching the game online!
