We need to draw on the collective wisdom of this group. My son finds himself in a very frustrating and discouraging situation.

Here is the situation. We live in Montana, thus no high school baseball, just the Am Legion program. We have a new Legion coach that does not like my son (as a player. I don't know whether any of this is "personal", to my knowledge my son has not done anything to make the coach dislike him personally.) Although the coach is fully aware that my son is being actively recruited by a DI primarily for his bat rather than his pitching, he has not allowed my son to hit since May 11, when he went 2-3 with 2walks a HR and 4 rbi. The coach took him out of the game and said "five at bats is enough for you!" Since that time, he has only been put in to pinch hit in the last inning when we are down by 10 and the game is basically over.

Here is my question. We have a couple of showcase type events coming up shortly in which we expect to garner some interest. (My son is an '07). We have a player profile sheet which lists the coach's name and phone number. Frankly, I would be petrified to have anyone contact this coach for fear of what the coach would say. I truly believe the coach would attempt to harm my son's chances of playing at the next level.

We have no other baseball options at this time, so we have no real choice but to "tough it out for the remainder of the season."

Do we just remove the coach's contact information from the profile sheet? What do we do about questionaires directed to the coach?

To avert some of the inevitable questions,
1) yes, my son has been seen by the DI coach
2) yes, we have plans for travel/fall ball that will involve playing with a team 4 hours away

I mainly need advice on coach contact/questionaires. I am at a loss here, any suggestions would be welcome.

For what it is worth, I agree with all the advice you have received to far. Best of luck, you are in a tough situation, but not one you cannot overcome if you handle it well, which might not be easy.

And if the conversations with the coach do not go well, I would not provide his contact info to anyone, even if it meant telling a school yourself that the coach and your son did not have the same appreciation for one another (I would try to avoid that scenario altogether though).
Yes, in a very non-hostile enviroment, I'd try and find out the coach's problem.....try working with him to resolve the problem...
....and if that doesn't work...I'd leave his name off everything! Use other Coach references.....has he previously played for the fall/travel ball Coach? You said this was a new AL Coach....did son play for the former AL Coach?
Going through much the same thing as you are right now , only my son's high school coach is the legion coach! So not only did he get passed over in high school it's now happening in legion. What I will say is that this board has helped us maintain sanity. Much good advice here, especially guys like TR hit and some others.
Some one from a show case recently told me that just because your not playing now doesn't mean you should'nt be .
I wonder how often these type of things happen. ( alot I suspect.)

You may just want to "gut" it out until the fall-- include a simple note in the return of the questinnaires explaining the situation and then have the fall coach give the recommendation

The key is the showcase events in the summer so he that gets on radar screens

If you want to discuss it further feel free to phone me

My son in very similar situation. He was MVP of his league, All State player and Legion coach won't play him this summer even though there has never been anything between them. Have had several scouts and college coaches contact him as well as the coach to find out when they can come watch him. We have told them to come to the summer showcases he will be in instead of Legion but would like to find out why coach is acting the way he is. He just keeps blowing smoke with our son and refuses to talk to parents about playing time.
