My son and I were down there for the 18u last Sunday evening playing a game at the complex. My son's glove ripped during warm ups and I found the gentleman who repairs gloves at the complex. It took him a few minutes because some leather had torn, but by the start of the second inning it was repaired and was back in the game. He said the charge was $1. I made it 5 and called it even. What a nice guy he was.

Hey J H...here's a story I remember from way back. I used to go back and forth across the various passes over the Cascade Mountains during all seasons. Often you are miles and miles from any help if you break down. Folks tend to stop and help others when trouble arises.

I can't remember if I stopped to help someone or if someone stopped to help me, but what I do remember is the other fellow telling me a story about how things were done on one pass somewhere in Western Montana. It was a local custom to keep gas cans topped off somewhere along the route. If a traveller was running low or out of gas it was available in one of these cans. A real godsend to some, yet quite expected by regulars. And the whole system only worked when the gasoline used is then replaced by the user on the return trip.

It worked something like that and I, as quite a young man, learned from this gentleman how generosity and compassion is so helpful. In this case out in the wide open spaces on a lightly travelled highway.

Being in a large metro area I'm more cautious. You have to be. I phone into a road emergency call center every time I see a motorist in peril along our expressways or major thoroughfares. I would hope someone would do the same for me or any member of our family.

He was there until Monday night. Glove broke in warm-ups at the complex the first game Tuesday.

Can't say enough about Jonquil Sporting Goods. Picked up the glove this morning, it was so much better then the repair job I did. Plus they have a great selection of baseball equipment.
