Since we are on religion and baseball I want to share a story Tommy Lasorda told at a dinner I attended a few years back.
He told about going to church one Sunday morning in Cincinnati while playing a series there. Across the church was Johnny McNamara, the manager of the Reds.
"I knew why he was there and he knew why I was there," Lasorda said. "After Mass, he said, "Wait for me outside, I'll be right out."'
Lasorda sneaked back into the sanctuary and saw his rival light a candle. He said McNamara told him before the game that he had lit a candle so the Reds were sure to win. Lasorda then informed him that he had sneaked back in a blew out his candle. The Dodgers won! Big Grin
