Conversation with someone who owns a hitting facility.
Visitor: Where are the batting tees?
Owner: There are none. Took them out years ago. They are stupid. This is baseball, not golf. When in baseball do you ever get to hit a baseball that's standing perfectly still?
Visitor: OK, that's a point. But, everyone uses tees. Major Leaguers use them. Granted, the ball isn't moving. But, that's kinda the point of them - taking tracking and timing out of it which then allows you to focus on tuning your mechanics and coordination. Slowing it down to allow you to chunk it up and work on specific elements of the swing without worrying about contact.
Owner: I can do all that in front toss just as well as off the tee and it helps you more because it is closer to replicating game play.
Visitor: But, with the tee, someone can workout alone and you don't need to have another person to toss.
Owner: Just because you can do it alone doesn't make it valuable if it's replicating something that doesn't exist in the game. Again, when in baseball to you ever get to hit a baseball that's standing perfectly still and not moving in any direction? It's like practicing pitching without throwing a ball. Hitting is hitting a thrown ball. Hitting is not hitting off a tee.
