Before Redbird calls me out of hiding, I will show up on my own!
I was not able to attend the game because of work, but spent a few minutes to read the stats.
Mathews, there is no way anyone can assume one way or another about ODU recruiting, but I did do some math. NS had a total of 10 players and ODU had a total of 8 players in their stats that I would consider players within a radius around the Norfolk area. All of ODU's pitching was within this radius while NS used the majority (5.2) innings from outside this radius.
With that being said, obviously the coach at NS is doing an outstanding job, with all of his players, both in his back yard and out.

Let's just call it what it is, according to the stats, ODU did not play well.(I would use another word, but it would be bleeped) In fact, I think all of the errors were by "local" players. Today was the first outing for Brett Harris. I am sure that as the season continues he will improve. He did a great job last year, so let's hope he stays healthy. Not sure why some of the other starters didn't play.

And yes, Grasscutter, I do believe they could use Difulgo, both now and in the future. And yes, these losses are killing me, thanks for your concern.
Yankee fan...

I am not assuming anything. If the ODU coach walked in front of me, I would not be able to pick him out of a line up. The fact is, Coach Clark is showing up everywhere in the local area. From Grand Slam 2 to high school baseball games and practices. I would hope that ODU will take notice. There are some great players in the Tidewater and they are going to schools other than ODU. Brett Harris is just one example of the exception and Gary Ward will be a great adddition next year. 10 to 8. Are you kidding me? That is the best arguement you have That is exactly my point. Thanks for making it easy for me.

I am missing your point, maybe it is late and past my bedtime. I do know what the ODU coaches look like and they must be at local events because they had at least 8 players from the radius today. By the way, I have seen them at many games, high school included. Perhaps since you do not know what they look like, you wouldn't know if they were there or not.
I would guess you are saying that there is a large difference between 10 and 8. Interesting enough that the local guys from both teams had almost the exact same batting average, if I did the math right. The real difference seemed to be in the pitching that NS had from out of area guys.
So back to the original point, it has nothing to do with local versus non-local. ODU sucked today and NS did better. That's what is easy about it.
I think that I debated this with you last year at ODU.
There are a lot of great players from Tidewater that go other places than ODU and Norfolk State. To make a blanket statement that ODU only has Harris and Ward (next year) that are the execption only show your ignorance of the program at ODU.

Why can't you just give Coach Clark the credit he deserves for doing a great job at Norfolk State. It is not necessary to bring down another program because they didn't come to Greenbriar Christian to recruit your son. (just saying)

By the way, maybe you can explain something to me that would be productive.

Why does NS only play 12 conference games? I was trying to figure some of this stuff, because I truly had no idea anything about NS. I noticed that NS has only played 13 games to ODU's 23. Then I realized that the schedules are way different. Including, the fact that NS has 12 conference games scheduled and ODU has 24 scheduled. I know they are in different conferences.

But why are the total games so different?
Not sure why the difference in game schedules. That is a great question and I am not the right guy to ask. After some quick home work I do know that NS has 6 true freshmen from the Tidewater and ODU has zero.

Sammy Serafine 2B Fr. Chesapeake, Va. / Greenbrier Christian
Raymond Morton RHP Fr. Chesapeake, Va. / Greenbrier Christian
Greg Abetz RHP Fr. Norfolk, Va. / Granby HS
Shane Hoggard 1B Fr. Hampton, Va. / Bethel HS
Trevor Hinson RHP Fr. Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial HS
Jordan Egan RHP Fr. Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial HS

By the way you have me confused with someone else. I have never been to an ODU game. I have been to a couple of NS games though. It is hard to get to the games because of my own son's baseball schedules. HS and weekend tournaments.

I will take your word on the ODU coaches working the local area because I admit I do not know who they are.
I was being facetious. You know the dad who comes to the region games at ODU and sits there and complains because ODU did not recruit their son.

But a word of advice, before you post on here, do your homework. You are not just ignorant about ODU but also Norfolk State.

Upon going through your website, there are 8 true freshman (unless they are no longer with the team and the website has not been updated). You left out Taylor and Salter.

So, the moral of the story is that ODU didn't recruit 8 local guys for this year and Norfolk State did. How many roster spots did ODU have to fill this year? Norfolk State has a total of 10 true freshman on a squad of 28.

By the way, all the questions I have ask you, I already know the answer. I was intending for you to do your homework, before putting out information on a public forum.

According to ODU website, there are 7 seniors this year. There have been 6 letters of intent signed. Have heard great things about Cody Cox, but have not seen him. Verlander's little brother has also signed, did see him, great potential. Ward also signed.

Am not doing anymore homework on NS, but did speak to Cameron Day a few weeks ago. What a beast. Watched him hitting in the cage. Has a great GPA and great athletic ability. The Difulgo kid from Kellam is also committed to NS. Don't know who else. With 10 freshman this year, not sure what their roster limit is.
Also, don't know what happened to the Bright kid from Ocean Lakes that should have been a senior this year at NS. He was doing well but is no longer on the roster??????
I think the interesting thing about this game is that NSU is an up and coming program and is becoming more competitive. This should be good for baseball in the tidewater area as now the rivalry between ODU and NSU is more competitive. As a parent of a baseball player in the tidewater area, you have to notice that the 2 college teams in this area are becoming more competitive. As a parent, I have noticed that 8 freshman on the NSU team are from the tidewater area and they have all had significant playing time and have done well. I would like to congratulate Coach Clark for the good job he has done in recruiting. I also wish ODU well as it is in the best interest of the tidewater area if both teams do well.
'43, are you calm now? Thought something was in a bind there a little bit ago. It's no secret Coach Clark has recruited heavily around town, especially the last couple of years (mostly by himself from I have seen). It's also no secret that ODU had it's recruiting coordinator leave last season, but I don't think that had a negative effect on their "gets". Coach Goulet is just as capable as Coach Morris was and has already been pounding the pavement around here. I don't think anyone can doubt ODU's success in this area since the Guzzo regime. Let's face it, this season's records are what they are. That can be contributed to more than just who on the squads from the area.
The high school signees for NSU are right handed pitcher Jeff DiFulgo (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam HS), pitcher/first baseman Jason Ellington (Newport News, Va./Warwick HS), right handed pitcher/outfielder Chase Kyriacou (Virginia Beach, Va./Cox HS) and outfielder Cameron Day (Virginia Beach, Va./Landstown HS). Also, I believe Robbie Brownschidle (Grafton) is a Red-Shirt Freshman (due to injury).

ODU has signed Joey Burney out of Gloucester along with Cody Cox (Grassfield)......I know of at least one more talented player on their radar from the local area, but no commit until I know it's official.
