Hi everyone. My son is a 2022 and has a desire to go to college in NYC. He is a D2 or D3 player, likely a HA D3. We are about 7 hours away and are looking to do a showcase where some of these schools will attend, but we have not had much luck. Headfirst has a couple of colleges he likes attending but not all of them. Does anyone know how these colleges recruit? I would think there is a local showcase or event where these schools go to for talent. He is looking at some CUNY schools and others in the NYC area (Baruch, CCNY, Queens, College of Staten Island, Adelphi, Farmingdale). Thanks

HI, those schools vary pretty widely. The top being Adelphi, down to Baruch and CCNY. Besides Adelphi most are not traveling to recruit, and some aren't going to showcases really but recruiting via local HS's and word of mouth. Feel free to message me I'm in NYC.
Keep in mind, CUNY's are a great value nin state (queens college for example) but cost significantly more for out of state because of room and board.
Check out the i95 metro showcase
High Academic? Why not NYU? It's a wonderful place to go to school, for a kid with self control and parents with $$$.

Thanks so much for the response. I suspected they may do their recruiting locally at HS Games. That makes sense. As for the CUNY's, yes we are prepared for the cost of living expenses. It seems that they would still be in budget and they seem to have a very good reputation for quality. I will PM you with additional questions as they come up. Thank you!

NYU is his first choice! But it is very expensive and their acceptance rate is so low - I do not see it as very likely. He takes his next round of SAT's later this summer and he thinks he can hit their requirements there, but grades may hold him back. He will be applying though. That coach did email him a couple of times. It was very nice to get a response from a coach!
You probably know this, but in the world of HA colleges many coaches have the ability to help get a kid through admissions, though his grades and test scores still have to be good. I don't know about NYU specifically though.
I would think this would be exactly the sort of situation where your son should email the coaches, tell them about himself and his interest in attending their schools, and ask where he can get in front of them. Even mention the possibility of attending certain showcases. If they are interested, they will tell him. Note that they will probably also say, "come to our camp" - that's fairly standard. But if he has something that particularly interests them, they'll find a way to see him.

I would advise him to express his interest to the Coach again, and ask the Coach directly if applying early decision would help him get in.
I can confirm NYU does. But the grades must be high..honor roll level. My son went to i95 and it did get him interest in school despite the covid closures and darkness. I think for more local schiols you should consider Blue Chip Prospects. The people who run it does have influence with the local schools in metro nyc
I'll also mention if your son wants to be in NYC, Staten Island is the most outer of the outer boroughs. Difficult to get into Manhattan itself. Has he looked at SUNY Maritime? Just north of the city, easier to get into the city than Staten Island. Good D3 program, and great ROI.

Thanks! Yes, he has done that and heard back from several of them, others never responded. I was hoping to spend a few days in NYC and hit a showcase where they all would be, but it does not seem like this is how they recruit. None have really responded back with the showcases they attend and so far none have a camp.

Thanks for your help. We looked at that school, but they do not have his major (Business or Business Analytics). He is looking to be close to NYC - a train ride in.

Thank you. I did see that one and he plans to attend the session in the fall. He is not available for the July session - just our luck!
Look at Stevens Tech. Fairly HA but not like NYU etc. Decent business programs. Hoboken is a nice town on the Hudson and a quick train or boat ride to lower Manhattan.

Thank you! I am not sure how we missed that school. It looks like it checks all of his boxes. I will share it with him later today. Thank you.
Since you mentioned Farmingdale, have you looked at Old Westbury?, NYIT shut down their program because of Covid but I think will be back my 2023.
If you/him think he can play at Adelphi you may want to look at some of the lower level D1s in NYC and just above.

I don't know much about Stephens baseball, but I do know that their tech grads are sought after at the big Wall Street firms...very good reputation as smart and hard working.
Steven’s is solid baseball program, not special but good. If you son is lefty with power even a little he will love it. Right field / truck center is like 280 or something ridiculously short.
