Tommorow Night, 1.29.2005 is CSUF Titans, Alumni Game then the Stanford Cardinal comes to town. All the Stanford folks that make it down I plan on being at least at one game.
HotCornerDad - I hope to be there. Could you please order up some warm SoCal weather?!
Since its raining outside and we're on the topic of college baseball...I was looking at Boyd's World and their latest column.
Notice that 6 of the 10 toughest non-conference schedules in college baseball are played by California teams.

I grew up in the Midwest and was not hooked on college baseball until we moved out here. We see some great stuff!

Barely rained at all over here, so I had high hopes that the game would be played. Nuts. Dashed home for nothing....
hotcornerdad ...
If you are a Titan fan ... can you plase check out the "Avatar bet" thread on the general forum? Bullwinkle needs to borrow somebody's Titan cap for a week ...

The days are warm but the nights get cool. If you are coming down for the Stanford game bring a blanket for the seats. Goodwin field can get drafty but is a nice place, We just finished another round of rain so the air should be clear for a while. Some Nice Places to eat near the park are Don Jose's if you like Mexican Food. It is about 6 blocks from the ball field. Also Dario's for Italian Food a little farther drive than the 6 blocks but they have great Calzones. I will get the map of the area and supply the link so they are easy to find.
justbaseball and 123KMOM ...
I have a slight glitch in plans for Friday's game but hope to get to at least one if not both of the other 2 games. Am staying in tough with 123KMOM directly and looking for help on tickets ... sounds like the series will be sold out since it is the opening series for the National Champion Titans.
Hope to see you both there sometime that week-end ...

If I'm coming from Northern California on I-5...what time do I have to hit Santa Clarita to avoid massive traffic jams getting to Fullerton on Friday?
Be in Santa Clarita by noon? By 2:00?
7:00 p.m. game time.

You might want to consider taking the 5 to the 210 eastbound to the 57 southbound, rather than go thru the center of LA. You defintely want to avoid 91 eastbound on a Friday afternoon!!! I would think you would want to hit Santa Clarita about 2 ... then you will have time for a leisurely dinner in Fullerton.
Is I-5 over the grapevine opened back up to all lanes Southbound? It was down to one lane a couple of weekends ago and it was taking people up to 5 hours to get over it.
Why was it down to 1 lane? Snow? Construction?
Not that I want to be the bearer of bad news mind you....you can check Cal Trans website at www.dot.ca.gov for information.
just ...
There was a mud slide after the 2nd batch of rains. I would definitely check the dot.ca.gov site mentioned.

YAHOO --- was able to see 'live' on gametracker that freshman pitcher Erik Davis was called in to close out the top of the 9th inning in the final game between Stanford and Fresno State. I am happy to report that the first batter he faced was a ground out, the second was a SOL, and the third was a foul-out to first base. CONGRATULATIONS E on an outstanding debut! Now Dad, take deep breaths...
Thanks UKMB - Geez...I could hardly breathe! Your turn is coming!
Congrats to Erik. What an exciting way to start the season!
I looking to get tickets this week hope I am not too late for this opening series. Looking forward to seeing this one. Congrats on the debut Eric!
Just -
Congratulations! Erik looked great last night! One - two - three - with a strike out! WAY TO GO ERIK
We arrived home about 1:30am...no traffic...Interstate 5 is still down to two lanes in one area by Lake Castaic but no problem at 12:30am last night!
BTW: Your two daughters are darling!

Congrats JustBB - Remember, pacing can help a lot.
Justbaseball -
Our congratulations to Erik! Awesome!
Our congratulations to Erik! Awesome!
Justbb, congrats on Erik's terrific first outing. Wonderful way to start a college career. Stanford played and and pitched awfully well in all 3 games. Seems he should have gotten a consideration for a save since on Saturday, a Stanford reliever came in with the score 11-1, pitches 4 innings and gets a save. How does that happen when the game ends 12-1?
JustBB...great job to Erik...and dad for being able to pace without paceing out.
OK eveyone...thanks SOOOOO much for the kind words and thoughts. Our family truly appreciates the warmth of the posters here. You guys/ladies are one of the best support groups around! I think I've recovered from the extreme anxiety of the first weekend, so lets move on...
Now, hoping to be down in Fullerton this coming weekend. Besides 123KMom, HotCornerDad and us, who else is going to try to make it to that great rivalry series?

Got tickets for the game behind the First base dugout. Section E Row M seats 7-10. So the Stanford players can hear me better,
You will have a bigger problem if my wife hears you "better!"
Hotcornerdad - One other thing....I do like the Fullerton uniforms a lot. Check out the website of our 12U team for my younger son...team name "Rebels" but there's no mistaking who the uniforms were copied from.

Just and HotCorner ...
I will be at the Saturday game for sure, and quite possibly the Sunday game, too. My connection is 123KMOM but I have (surprisingly, since I was a Highlandermom and competed against the Titans for 3 years) quite a few Titan friends as well. To stay neutral, I will most likely be wearing UCR colors .. blue and yellow/gold ...

Good luck to everyone tomorrow.
I will be listening to the Dirtbags games but will be tracking all of the others to see how the bets are going.
I'm trying not to show any favoritism here but wouldn't it be fun to see Bullwinkle with a new avatar each week?

Justbaseball, which is your kid on the Cardinal team don't want to heckle him just know who it is so I can enjoy watching him play. I don't care for hecklers that get mean.
Man, I love this game!
My wife is thrilled for the start of the season, she says "now you will stop being a grumpy old bear!"

HotCornerDad - You have a PM.
Anyone going to the Cal/LMU series this weekend, would you please send up a special prayer if #15 happens to head to the bullpen??? Unfortunately, I won't be able to be there and it is just killing me. Also cheer for #6 - his roomie, who has been starting at #6 since the beginning of the season.
Down here in Long Beach hoping the weather holds and we can get a DH in. What a beautiful park the Dirtbags have - I highly recommend going there hungry because the food rivals some major league parks I have attended. Great first game on Friday - sure hope the Bears keep their momentum going! Team looks focused, tight and together !
Good to see you there, Blue.
Way to beat the Dirtbags in first 2 games. I suspect the third one is cancelled ... will check later.

URKMB...
Congrats on the sweep over the Dirtbags. These last few games have been agonizing to listen to.
I hear there been another injury to the team and it's their closer. What else can go wrong???
Good thing we don't have an avatar bet going.

Great to see you and hubby at the game today, FutureBack Mom (you, too CatchMom )
LOL - DB2BMom. I sure know what you mean. BTW, Long Beach has a great setup there - even a tarp to cover the infield during the (several) rain delays today. All I can say is that there are a bunch of happy, tired young men on a bus right now heading north - about 4 hours later than they had anticipated, but I am sure they don't mind one bit!
