Am I the only dad that get's involved (discuss actually) with their boy's walk up music for the HS season?

<I know...kinda petty....lol>

I will not stand for certain types of music (cRAP to be specific...lol)

So.......his choice is the big guitar and drum's riff portion of Dire Straits 'money for nothing' (like 1.20 sec of the song).

<site won't let me paste the link-damn>

Now don't get me wrong, I love me some Dire Straits and am very happy that he likes it too. However, I really like the beginning of Billy Squire's 'lonely is the night' and can't seem to convince him that it's the better way to go (Alice in Chains 'man in the box' was really my first choice...lol).

<site wont let me paste the link-damn>

Any suggestions form the Pro's?

Maybe a little 'cupid shuffle'?

LMAO-

The seniors pick walk up music at son's high school so it should be interesting to say the least.

If he had a choice, it would definitely be rap. I really don't care as long as it's clean.

When I was working in pro ball, the athletic trainer had "MASH" as his walk-out. Any time that he had to go onto the field for an injury, it was played. lol

I am trying to convince the dad that run's the PA system to play.....'you dropped a bomb on me' everytime we chase a pitcher from the mound....

A work in progress....lol

LoL

I spent all that time introducing my son to Dire Straights, Tom Petty, Steely Dan, the Eagles, The Cult,  38 Special the Hollies, CCR, The Police, the Smiths and the Offspring.  8th Grade year he chooses "Brass Monkey" as his walk up song.

Jr. year he's talking about "When the Levee Breaks",  "Cult of Personality", "Life in the Fast Lane."   So, it get's better.

During opposing team's pitching changes I have been known to play Donnovan's "I like You" or Brahm's "Lullaby."

My son has said he would just not have a walkup song rather than use my "old crappy" music. He used a song called New Level by some person named A$AP Ferg last year.

*shudder*

Being in charge of walk-up, Gametime songs would be an absolute honor....

pitching change- "HELP" by the Beatles

bases loaded- "all aboard"- Crazy Train from Ozzy Osbourne

sacrfice or bunt for a hit- "Lay it down"-RATT

Intro for my son as he starts the game- opening riffs from Metallica, "Seek and Destroy", too bad HE doesn't feel the vibe from the opening riffs...

Ahh-- I used to like that song..by the Gap band, until the opposing team at a road game last year played that for every homer hit-- and there were about 5 of them.

Interesting since the theme song for MASH was "Suicide is painless"

Yes, but how many people actually know that? Most just associate that music with MASH.

I've become fond of "Enter Sandman" as a walk up song probably because I've been to a couple dozen Virginia Tech football games in the last 4 years...middle son graduates in May.   There is nothing like the beginning of a VT football game....I wish that energy would transfer over to a VT baseball game.

Question - how many of you would have wanted your father's input on a walk up song when you were in high school?

It either would have been "The Best of Bread" or anything Glen Campbell...

My son listens to rap....some of it I like and the rest I can tolerate.  I let him blast his playlist in the truck whenever he wants.  And actually, the production quality of the sound is much more advanced than anything I listened to as a youth.

I told my son he can use whatever "rap" song they will allow under one circumstance.....his Mom approves it first. We listen to his play list in the car to and from events a lot. I like some and some I think are horrible. But my wife doesnt know or like most of those songs. Somehow knowing that she will listen and ask him questions as to why he would use that particular song, has kept him in check. Lets face it , there are some very offensive songs out right now , even though they are relatively "clean" and can be played on the radio. The meanings can be very .....unique. Having to defend your case to your Mom, who is your biggest and most sensitive fan, can be very humbling. Especially when she asks the reasons why the other boys chose various songs....

Funny and good point Go44Dad and HSHuler.  I was commenting to my wife a couple mornings ago about our areas all-Metro football player selections favorite music or artist.  Each player had to select their favorite artist and what they were embarrassed to have on their playlist.  In almost all cases we did not know their favorite artist but did know the artist that they were "embarrassed to know was on their playlist".   Exactly to your point.  ;-)   I told my wife that we are officially old.

"Sandman"  is a great multi-use tune, as are "Thunderstruck", "Welcome to the Jungle"   and for something outside of the box, "Flirtin' With Disaster."

Ahhhhh....another Molly Hatchet fan?

'Flirtin w/ Disaster' was another one of my recommendations that got shot down. I was rather surprised when he mentioned he was considering 'Jungle Love' (The Steve Miller Band-which was the first concert I took him to at the county fair when he was about 7). Unfortunately that was shot down by his buddies as well...lol

Although I enjoy listening to my Dad's music now (Sinatra, Darin, Connick Jr. etc.), probably would not have happened when I was a teenager (Rush, Zeppelin, Van Halen etc.).

There was a kid last year at an away game that used Sinatra as his walk-up music ('come fly with me')...The moment i heard it I looked over at my son in the opposing dugout pointing at me and laughing. He thought it was pretty cool as well.

My son usually listens on his headphones in the car unless we're having a conversation. I don't try to restrict what he listens to because it would not work anyway.

My redneck, lifetime NRA member son loves Eminem (along with country music). He can quote the lyrics to most all of them and tells me how many Grammies that E has won, etc, etc. and what he has accomplish.  I still don't like rap but some of his lyrics are pretty good when i can figure out what E says. Son uses the clean versions for walk up songs

Ps:  Again, his dream. His walk up song.

I get involved enough that he knows not to choose a song with lyrics that might be regrettable and not represent his family well. Other than that, it's his choice, rap, rock, club or country.

Good point - I can guarantee you that my son isn't crazy enough to choose anything that would embarrass us or himself. :-)

+1. Same here.

Restricting music choice hasn't worked well for any generation since the 1950's...maybe ever.

I do the PA for our program and tell the boys they can choose whatever they want for walk on as long as it doesn't reference drugs, sexually offensive/aggressive and would otherwise be considered offensive by the school/district/parents etc. I scrub/screen/edit all music and find an appropriate 30 seconds they can use. You would think this would rule out all rap it doesn't. You would think this would allow all country music - it doesn't. Program leaves it up to me to determine if we allow it. I won't put anything across the speakers that will embarrass the school, program or players/families. Music between innings is my choice and usually current music across all genres.

You don't mock high school kids. Forms of support should involve anything as positive as possible. But there shouldn't be negative hits on the opposition. Save it for pro ball. Or all the mocking college players take from college age fans from investigation of their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

I know I had input even though I was never involved in the process. My daughter used Sweet Home Alabama in college . My son used Kashmir.

My daughter went to college in the south. One of her teammates asked, "You're not from Alabama are you?"  My daughter with her best Philly attitude (no accent), "Does it sound like it?"

My kids (now 28 and 23) don't care for a lot of the music from their generation. Whenever my CD's were missing I would find them in their room or car.

I've seen The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tedeschi Trucks with my son. Unfortunately, when my daughter was twelve I took her and three friends to see Britney Spears. I found she can be tuned out with Black Sabbath coming through ear buds.

Re: Your kid's generation music

Does anyone remember Gino Michellini? He was the afternoon drive guy on KLOS in LA. He also had a nationally syndicated show.

Someone asked him if we will be listening to that crappy elevator music when we are sixty? Michellini responded, "You will be listening to what you listen to now. And your kids will be calling it crap."

i do listen to David Garrett. David Garrett is one of the world's greatest classical violinists. He isn't in a symphony. The best symphonies are fortunate to have him perform with them as a headliner.

As a second career Garrett has his own band. The show and albums are called David Garrett's Rock Symphonies. It's his interpretation of rock songs that he can translate into rock symphonies. Or he takes hard core classic music and makes it sound borderline rock. I like his version of Kashmir better than Led Zeppelin.

Another +1.  Its my kids choice.  The school will censor it if its out of bounds.
