Ok, TRhit, now you hit on my Pads....

First of all the Padres are the current NL West Champions, the dodgers, giants, diamondbacks and the rockies did not do anything to take the championship away.

Secondly, Petco Park is a brand new ballpark it is easy to get to and is beautiful ballpark that all of us San Diegians love.

Thirdly, Sandy Alderson is the Padres CEO and John Towers is our GM. The Padres Manger is Bruce Bochy. All are highly respected baseball men.....John Moores, the Pardes owner since 1994 has brought respect, and let the baseball men run the baseball team.

Just because ESPN doesn't show our highlights (all ESPN does show is the Red Sox and Yankees) and being on the east coast, the box shows up a day late in your newspaper, doesn't mean the the Padres are not a MLB team.

Lastly, according to you, the Padres are "are on their way out of town" as you say. This total lack of respect for a MLB team is outrageous and shocking coming from a "Baseball Man" like you TRHit. Maybe you should change your name to TOHit. Cause your talking and not thinking about the possibility of consequences.

In the past, I have referred some young men to your business. I am now considering this may not be in the best interest of these young players.

TR, I agree with Mr Moose on this one. Petco is one of the beautiful parks in all of baseball, has brought a huge new energy to the downtown and "Gaslamp" area, and the Padres are a focal point of the San Diego area. Through some folks I know in the organization, it is clear that Sandy Alderson is/will make his mark. The Pads are making a significant investment in a facility in the DR for player identification/development. TR, on this one, I think you have sawed off the branch while you were standing on it.

heard a few weeks back one of the local beat writers who was saying that the Padres and the Chargers may both be leaving your city. What does this have to do with lack of respect--the man I heard spoke for nearly 30 minutes--has nothing to do with being a baseball man or not amnd nowhere did I know the owbners the GM or the manager--

Padres may have won the Division but they were merely a .500 club in the weakest division in the NL if not all MLB.

Never used a saw in my life-- you can hurt using one if not used properly.

In this day and age money is what wins not "bargain" picks

TR, you are over 3,000 miles away listening to a "local" beat writer talk about the Padres. Interesting information upon which to base judgements/comments??? Confused
TR, the Pads are going nowhere and suggesting they are is wrong and completely lacking in facts. Moores himself is/has made a number of investments in hotels, etc linked to Petco. You might take a vacation there. One of the most beautiful, rapidly growing areas in the US. Where the heck would they go that is better than that and why? Like it or not, Alderson is one of the very brightest in baseball. The Braves, A's, Twins, Indians and now the White Sox are prime examples that money does not "win" ball games. (Can you say Orioles? Roll Eyes) Money gets you immediate and lots of talent in NY and Boston but does not win games. Other organizations build differently and successfully. Boston/NYY have so ravaged their farm systems they have to pay big $$$ to free agents. Other organizations using the model largely put in place by Alderson build more gradually and effectively. TR, you are wrong on the issue and your post.

I knew that "I'm sorry" wasn't in your vocabulary. But I never thought you would use an unnamed source (like Dibble) as a statement of fact. But due to your unusual typing style in your reply I must consider that you are apprehensive regarding your statements. I'll take that.

Regarding the NL West....divisons get strong, divisions get weak. Time changes everything.
Go Bully Go Bully Go Bully

Had an opportunity to got to Petco last year to see a former teammate of AJ's through his first NOME MLB game (he had 2 starts away before that). The park is amazing ... nothing like we had ever seen before. It is a real family atmosphere ... something that I don't think is seen in a lot of parks arounf the country ... and there are definitely a lot of serious Padres' fans. We enjoyed the experience, even tho it was the most expensive date hubby has taken me on in a long time ... but that isn't any different than many other parks around the country.

And the idea that "... divisons get strong, divisions get weak" is the absolute truth. It wasn't that long ago that the central divisions of both leagues had their struggles. The pendulum swings both ways ...

Why do I have to say I am sorry?

The writer from SD and I am sorry I do not recall his name as the interview was a few months back. He answered questions on WFAN for nearly 30 minutes regarding Padres baseball and Chargers Football. He wasn't knocking the teams either just discussing the ongoing politics, in particular concerning the Chargers future and also discussed the attitude difference now from what it was with the previous owners of Padres.

Divisions do change from year to year but fact of the matter is this past year the Padres were the best worst team in their division.

Hey I know about bad teams as I am a long time Mets fan
Hey, what's the big deal, we've been hearing that the Marlins were leaving town as soon as they got here! pull_hair

I stated something once I heard on news radio and I do believe was told it's just opninion. Talk is talk.

Be careful, my friend Moose, I was just mentioning that about NCAA conferences and some didn't like it. Big Grin

On behalf of my Metsies - a rebuttal:

1) OK - its a toilet. And a very dirty toilet at that. But the Mets do supply more free bathroom tissue at each game than any team in MLB. Both for wiping away the tears and for well - you know. LOL

2) OK - so the Mets have the worst dollar for dollar success ratio in the history of any sport in mankind - But no team has ever lost with more style and in more ways.

3) Attendance - OK - the Mets drew 61% of capacity. (Actually - it was about 32% but Mets management count small rodents as attendees).

As for the Mets moving - they have tried several times - but noone wants them.

LOL

Lets Go Mets!!!

Speaking of Petco, just reminded me of a very funny scene. Playing the Giants this year, televised from Petco. Kruk and Kuip are talking about the park and the name "Petco" when the centerfield camera picks up a huge rat runing back and forth near the backstop behind the hitter/catcher/umpire. For the next 7 inninings we got a video replay everytime the word Petco was mentioned.
BBScout,

Ask yourself this. What other organization in MLB would have a gigantic apple pop out of a metal hat after each home run?

Postscript: Several years ago - Steve Phillips (Mets GM at the time) thought the apple was real and had it sprayed with DDT. After protests from environmental groups - the Mets finally stopped spraying it.

Once the apple was cleaned - and determined to be free of DDT - Mo Vaughn ate the apple.

Steve Phillips then gave Mo another $24 million bonus - citing Mo's willingness to eat healthy fruits as the primary reason for the raise.

Lets Go Mets!!!

Isnt possible to have a debate without childs play as in false "quotes" ?

I wasn't saying the writer was correct or incorrect, just reporting what he said in the interview

What I did say that was bargain basemant players can get a .500 record and perhaps therein lies the reason they are .500

The sun must be so bright in california that the natives cannot read
Please don't take this personally, TR, but I actually thought that quote was pretty funny, and a gentle way to lighten up the topic a bit. See how well it worked? It went from that, to travelling rats working the crowd, to Mo Vaughn taking (another) bite out of the apple. Can we work in that ridiculous rally monkey in this somehow?

By the way, yes it is very sunny in CA today clap
TOHit may speak in fact with a unnamed source.
TOHit can malign a MLB team without thought and elementary thinking.
TOHit can call other posters names and intimidate into being quiet.
TOHit has the right to nuke then say, "That's what I heard"
TOHit can misinterpret, and misunderstand anything he wants.
ToHit can misconstrue and quote out on context.

TOHit can listen to a 30 min interview and only get "the padres might be moving" The Bullwinkle can use TOHit's own post and get "I am sorry" out of it.

"That's all I got to say about that."

Too funny, Moose. And unfortunately too true.
