Has anyone attended this event in the past? I believe date is 1/25/04. I may be wrong but I didn't see any info in brochure regarding college's/scouts attending.
Even if no scouts attend is this a worthwhile event to get on Perfect Game's radar? My son is a pitcher, just starting to throw again. Not sure if he'll be ready in 3 weeks or if we want him to extend fully so early? Any thoughts, thanks!

Got my invite on Monday. I have been invited to many PG events but this is the first one that I will be going to. I'm looking forward to it. I'm a 05 catcher I don't know if this event is pitchers and catchers only but the workout format states 1. stretch, warm up, 2. C's pop times, 3. pitchers, 4. batting practice/Simulated game. Thats it
bret,hi guy!yes you should go because reps from perfect game will be there and they are important.plus the pro scouts in attendance, they always help kids for which most of the time they take no credit and never ask for a pat on the back.scouts have helped kids that have never heard of that scouts name or who he is.they are the unsung heroes of the game of baseball.they love the game and the kids that play it!!!they really are the silent heroes!
My son Scott was invited to this as well as the underclass showcase in Ft. Meyer. He is an 06 catcher. We passed on the Showcase in Florida but are sure we will be attending this one. I do beleive it is for pitchers and catchers.

On another note. Can anyone tell me if there truly is a dead recruting period for D1 schools at the beginning of January? That was just one of the reasons we passed on the one in Florida.
06BBDAD....

Thanks for the praise, but I'm learning just like you. From 'posters' like Beenthere, TARatko, Fungo, TRHit, gosh, so many others.

To answer your question, no, Andy is not going to the Mokena ID event. We are having a small family 'get together' for our youngest daughter who just finished receiving her "associates" degree.

I understand that PG is having a Pitchers/Catchers Indoor Showcase coming-up in Cedar Rapids sometime in March. Andy wants to go to that event, if invited. He also received an invite to the Midwest Prospects Showcases in Texas. Those are the end of July, early August, and he will be doing one of those. He will then start doing, hopefully a bigger PG event. Was invited to the PG Underclass Showcase in Florida, but couldn't go because of long-standing holiday plans. Also wants to do one or two college camps between now, and the end of 2004.

The summer high school baseball schedule, taking an extra class in summer school, and travel baseball, will dictate if, and when we go to an event in June or July. I doubt it though.

How about your families plans?

i was there and it was great!perfect game is so well respected with all level of colleges and pro clubs that despite no d1 schools there,it is really like they are because of perfect game.there was some pro clubs there.just really honored i had the opportunity to grade the catchers and some hitters.really proud of all the kids and the effort they put forth and for any kids out there they may need help,i do not care what team you play for you can call me anytime and i will help you the best i can because that is what it is all about.you!and a education!i just wished i had children myself.
My 06 son attended the showcase as well last Sunday. I believe the roster included 45 players in total. 2/3's of the players were 04's and 05's. 1/3 were 06's. I also thought the showcase was well run. Seemed to be a fair evaluation for all the players. I would recommend a future PG event.

Playhard, I had a chance to say hello to you between catcher evaluations. You did a nice job of letting the catchers know exactly what you needed them to showcase. Very thorough job. It was difficult for the catchers, not much room to move around back there.

Work hard and you will be rewarded!

WOUID NOT WASTE MY MONEY 195.00 FOR ABOUT 3 HRS A RIP OFF

BATBOY,
There will be some players who attended this event that will strongly disagree with your opinion.

I HEAR GOOD THNGS ABOUT PERFECT GAME TOURNAMENTS. WHERE YOU PLAY THREE GAMES AND YOU SON GETS A GOOD LOOK FROM COLLEGE COACHS. 195.00 FOR ONE NIGHT 3 TO 4 HRS AND NO D1 COACHS . A NO BRAINER IN MY BOOK.

BATBOY and others,
DI recruiting is going on right now. Yes, it's a dead period, but we have been talking to DI coaches all over the country about players we have seen in the past month. Yesterday I talked to 2 SEC, 1 ACC school and 1 Big 12 school. In fact, one of these school is actively recruiting a player they have never seen. The player did very well at the PG National ID Camp with no DI coaches in attendance.

PG has earned a very good reputation with scouts and college coaches. We and they know that we can not be anything, but honest. One falsehood and they never believe you again. Colleges know that we don't send them anything but kids who can contribute to their program.

Our staff has the credentials to evaluate players at both the professional and college level. Everyone knows that, including the top DI schools in America. We are one of the very few that can cause scholarship offers to happen without the college coach seeing a player. It has happened at many schools, including national power programs.

Here is one of many examples. Baseball America's present 11th ranked college team has a pitcher from a small town in Wisconsin. He is one of their top pitchers. He attended an indoor Showcase in Feb. in Cedar Rapids, IA. It was the first time we had seen him and I guarantee that "the college" had not heard of him and they were not in attendance at the Indoor Showcase.

This college calls us often and we've sent them several players. Knowing that the college was looking for pitchers, we called them and said, here's your guy. They immediately recruited him and got a committment, before everyone else got involved. Guess you could say, our word was enough.

BATBOY, Lucky for him and the college, the player wasn't listening to those who share your opinion. By the way, his participation lasted a total of 15 or 20 minutes. What a "rip off"!

There are many examples of similiar situations. We had a kid in our NE Showcase one year who nobody knew about. A nonrecruited senior out of high school. After seeing him we called a few DI schools. Top schools like LSU, and others offered him a scholarship sight unseen. He ended up going to his dream school (Boston College) and is now one of the top pitchers in College baseball.

We have sent players to many of the national powerhouse programs just based on our word.

We don't like to throw around names, but just for credibility the two players mentioned above are Jason Berken (WI) and Chris Lambert (NH). There are many others we could mention.

Bottom Line BATBOY,

If you can't play, it is a no brainer. Do not waste your money. If a player is really talented, we have many reasons to believe, it is a big bargain! Lucky for you... You didn't get "ripped off". By the way we report to nearly every DI school and many others. And we had 94 former PG players in last years College World Series.

Sorry to everyone for bringing this stuff up. It's just that we are not used to being associated with the word "rip off".
I really don't know why I'm wasting my time discussing things with someone named "batboy" who is from "somewhere".

However, for your information. We don't work out of our homes or work only the hours while we're doing an event. It costs us well over $5,000 a day to stay in business. That's if you count all 365 days in the year. How's that figure out "in your book"? Personally, I think it's a big "rip off" each time we have to pay all those bills.
I attended the event and thought that it was well organized. I wish that as was mentioned earlier that the catchers had a little more room, my back was right up against the screen. I also wish that they would have used a facility that was large enough to do catcher pop times and not just velocity. Are they really able to get a good evaluation like this or do they just bring us catchers in because we are necessary so everyone can look at the pitchers? I am trying to decide if I should attend the Pitchers and Catchers Showcase on February 28. This is in Cedar Rapids, do they have enough room there for pops. This is still a down period for D1, is that correct? Has anyone attended this showcase in the past? Playhard really looked to be enjoying himself evaluating the catchers.
Bret,

You bring up a good valid point. I don't mind giving an honest reply.

First of all, the Indoor in Cedar Rapids also will lack the room for pop times. However we get everything else including catchers velocity. We film everything, so we can view footwork, transfer, release, quickness, etc. long after the event is over. It allows us to evaluate a catchers receiving and throwing skills very well. We also get an opportunity to see how the catcher handles and catches good pitching. Just as important, is we want to see the catcher hit. The bat plays larger than ever now days at every position. If you can hit, you will play at the next level. If you can catch and hit, you are a very valued commodity in college and professional baseball.

To be honest, the indoor showcases are not as good as being outdoors. We would much rather be outdoors, but you know how that goes here in the cold weather. We are trying to find good players however and whenever we can. In fact, we have had many catchers attend the Indoor in Cedar Rapids who are now at high level DI schools. One is now at Southern California, one is at Baylor, one went to Stetson, one is at Iowa, one is at Oklahoma State, a couple are in professional baseball, Others who soon will be. The best players stick out like a sore thumb be it indoors or outdoors.

If you have ability, you should attend. If you are unsure of your talent, maybe you should not attend. We can not be more honest than that. Yes, we are a business, but the most important part of our business relies on finding talent. We don't want your money unless you can play. We can not help those who can not play. Every single unhappy customer we have ever had was one who couldn't play! Everyone of the players with talent is very happy, to my knowledge.

Bret, please understand I am not directing this towards you. Just trying to give people some idea of what we do.

Best of luck to you.
