Trevor, it depends on what your coach calls for bunt coverage.  Ask your coach.  Does he have signs or does the catcher call the bunt coverage?

Thank You for the information. We don't have signs because I think we are too young and there is a lot to learn .I hope you have a good day.

Thanks

Trevor,

you are 10, right?  This is the age where coaches are teaching the game.  You are not supposed to know everything a shortstop has to do.  It's ok to ask the coach, and I'm almost certain he'll be impressed that you asked.

Regarding your question, I think you should cover 2nd base in this situation, since the 2nd baseman will be moving over to cover first, and if the bunter is safe at first you need to be covering 2nd so he doesn't advance.

Smitty28 is correct.  SS would cover 2B.  Rule of thumb is that 2B always has to be covered on a bunt.  Other than when a Wheel Play is on (when SS covers 3B for a force and 3B charges), it will almost always be the SS covering 2B.  For a SS at OP's age, keep it simple.  Unless your coach specifically tells you otherwise, cover 2B on all bunts.  You are probably too young to execute a Wheel Play but not to young to learn and practice it. That would be the only time you'd cover 3B....(to my knowledge).  Even if 1B is not charging (and he usually will), the 2B has to cheat in in case of a successful push bunt his way and very likely won't be able to cover 2B.
