Saw an interesting article in the Mercury News (I wanted to see what the Warriors were saying about the Cavs). They postulated that Buster Posey's body language during the Bryce Harper fight might be an indication that Hunter Strickland's time with the Giants is about up. What say you?

I have heard there is a special bond between teammates on a solid team. That they typically have each others back, that you go after one you go after all. I have also heard this bond is magnified by ten when you talk about a pitcher and their catcher.
Since Posey did NOTHING one can only assume he doesn't consider Strickland his pitcher or his teammate.
Strickland has been excellent and pitchers have thrown at batters for celebrating homers for decades.
Whatever posey thinks off strickland has no bearing on stricklands future. The giants are in a messy situation and need to get whatever value they can get. Naturally when you are losing team chemistry is bad but the FO can't focus on that, they need to maximize value.
Maybe the giants even consider trading him but only if they get full value. They cant afford to give away value to please their catcher because the dodgers are much better and their own farm system is depleted.
This from Sporting News
Giants catcher Buster Posey knew Giants reliever Hunter Strickland was going to bean Nationals’ Bryce Harper, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.
Rosenthal says a coach with another club reached out to him and said Posey was told by Strickland not to intervene if Harper charged the mound.
From Rosenthal:
"I then contacted a source with knowledge of the situation, and he said that the rival coach’s theory was correct. Posey, the source said, was drawing unfair criticism for failing to defend his teammate when in reality he was adhering to his teammate’s – or perhaps manager Bruce Bochy’s – wishes."

So what do we believe? Strickland pre-planned to hit an MVP...that won't cause him any problems. Or Posey doesn't care what happens to Strickland...that won't cause him any problems.

Did you find any good bulletin board on the Mercury News, CD? I had to spend a lot of time in the car yesterday, and annoyingly everyone on the radio was talking about the Stickland-Harper kerfuffle not about what arguably is the most compelling and significant matchup in an NBA finals for many years. How often do the same 2 teams in any sport play a rubber match after splitting the last two championship series?
As long as it doesn't go sideways, with a major injury or a suspension, I'll take the Dubs in 5, six at the most. Want to make a small wager? I'll put a Cavs logo on this site as my avatar for a week if they lose. You use a GSW logo if Cavs lose.

Or maybe Strickland wanted to hit Harper, hoped Harper would charge the mound, and did not want Buster or anyone else to stop Harper from initiating a fight Strickland was more than happy to have.

That was option A, Strickland pre-planned to hit a MVP. Okay, that should go great for him...it's not like the leagues been applying new rules to keep injuries down or anything.
Stricklands suspension is not much for hitting an MVP with a 98 mph fastball. He will miss one maybe two starts. Harper will miss more because he is an everyday player. Neither player can pickup a second career as a fighter anytime soon. Morse and Jeff S. got the worst and neither of them threw a punch!
Yes, Morse is on the 7 day concussion DL. Strickland is a reliever so his 6 game suspension would cost the team fewer innings than if he was a starter, though it would probably involve more games, assuming it's upheld.
If the Strickland suspension for 6 games is upheld, it also impacts the Giants as they are not able to replace him. They will play those 6 games with a roster of 24 and be even thinner in the bullpen.
Buster has had a couple of on field displays this year which are quite unusual for him. I would have a hard time believing Posey would not be disgusted with Strickland hitting Harper in the 8th inning (especially over a purely personal issue dating back to 2014) of a game the Giants are losing 2-0, especially when they are 20-30 and scuffling. Bochy made it clear, post game, he did not approve of Strickland's personal actions.
If we look at the potential end result, it is Strickland is suspended for 6 games, the Giants play 6 games with a diminished roster, they lose Morse to the concussion DL, and they not scoring runs while starting an outfield each night with a combined BA around the Mendoza line. I tend to doubt they move Strickland solely because of this issue, unless he appears not to get "it" in terms of how his actions penalized his team.
I was sort of watching the Giants game last night while doing some other work (next night after the brawl). They were in it at 3-2 after 4. They pulled Samardjiza ( I get it, pitch count was high) and put in Morris. The guy clearly didn't have it right from the start. Yet, they left him in. Four hits and a walk later, they were out of the game. It was almost like they were conceding. It was strange.
BTW, I think it was during that ugly inning, I'm watching TV and there is a closeup of PickedOff, standing making some pretty strong gestures showing his displeasure at the umpire's strike zone.... darn pitcher's dads.
Some great Mays stories were told though.
The better question is this: What do the Nats do next? Does Scherzer drill Posey tonight? The Giants come to Nats in August. Do they wait till then to even it up? This story is not over, trust me.
As for Posey. It sounds like he knew it was coming & Strickland told him to stay out. Posey probably thought it was weak of Strickland & happily agreed to sit back. Pretty simple.
Judging by the way Harper fights, he was clearly overmatched anyway. Strickland b*tchslapped him.

I saw it live and countless replays, and while Strickland landed the first "punch", neither of them landed anything hard.
If Samardjiza hit Harper with his body slam, instead of Morse and seriously injured Harper, there would have been hell to pay. It looked to me like that was what he was trying to do. What's his "story" on what he was trying to accomplish?
Samardjiza just likes to "fight." His whole career he has always been one of the first out of the dugout.
WAY to much thought going into this whole deal. Just guys being guys. MANY guys find fighting fun. In today's world it's not socially acceptable.. Blah blah blah.. I watched more players smiling and laughing on the field after that scuffle than I have seen all season.

Arrieta seems to agree:

Another theory I had seen was that Posey thought it was a bunch of nonsense (other language I'm sure lol) and didn't intervene with the idea of demonstrating to the Nationals that the pitcher was on his own with this one. Thinking that by doing so, they wouldn't throw at Posey next...
Harper's helmet throw seemed really off. Pedro at least was closer with his: https://youtu.be/ZDA85mcVSxU

I'm a Cav's fan (Ohio born and bred) living in the Bay Area. Hometown loyalties die hard. Though I'll be rooting for the Cav's, my head tells me the Warriors have this one. The Cavs are a very good team, maybe the tiptoe up to great when they are firing on all cylinders, thanks to the way LeBron ability to elevates everybody he plays with.
But the Warriors are a flat out Super team. Super beats a very good, borderline great every time.

Unless when it doesn't. Last year the warriors also were considered the favorite and the cavs won.
And there also were supposedly unbeatable superteams with lebron who then lost against the spurs or mavs.
Short playoff series always involves an element of luck if two good teams face.
I am with Arrieta. Baseball can be a bit boring this time of year, maybe this will motivate the Giants. They certainly need something. Pitcher has to let his catcher know it's coming, and I am sure he wanted it to look like Posey had no clue, and neither did the manager.
And Harper knew it was coming.
And yup pitchers bean MVPs.
