Kirby was born and lived in the shadows of Comiskey Park. He attended and played ball in my back yard at Triton CC. He was one of our heros. My son still has his poster on his bedroom wall. 44 is too young. When Kirby Puckett retired following the 1995 season, he had attained the highest career batting average (.318) for a right-handed batter since Joe DiMaggio.

"I was told I would never make it because I'm too short. Well, I'm still too short,
but I've got 10 All-Star games, two World Series championships, and I'm a very
happy and contented guy. It doesn't matter what your height is, it's what's in your heart." ~ Kirby Puckett at his 1996 retirement press conference.

“Don’t take anything for granted, because tomorrow is not promised to any of us” ~ Kirby Puckett

To Young!

To doing it the way it should be done, here's to you Kirby. You were always one of my favorites. I have always tried to teach my players that if they ever wanted to immulate the way a player should play the game, just watch a tape of how Kirby did it. His smile was infectious! Kirby Puckett, you will be sorely missed but never forgotten! Frown
