We have another exciting guest lined up this week at hsbbweb radio. We have University of North Carolina Assistant Coach Robert Woodard. Robert is the beloved son of esteemed hsbbweb member Prepster.

Robert is the winningest pitcher in the history of The University of North Carolina (UNC). He also pitched and won in Omaha on ESPN so we'll be sure to ask him about that experience. We'll ask him what it personally took for him to be recruited at UNC and what he now looks for in kids he recruits to UNC. Please join us, post questions, and/or call-in to pick the mind of another professional who will provide insight into what it takes to play at the next level.

PS - as Josh noted in another thread, we are going to cover all levels of college recruiting on hsbbweb radio. In a few weeks for example, we are going to have UC Davis assistant coach and hitting coach Jason Armstrong. In addition to his current UC Davis experiences, Jason is looking forward to telling his story where he took an opportunity at the D3 level and built that into an opportunity at the very upper levels of the sport. He also earned a fine degree from a highly esteemed University - Trinity in San Antonio Texas. As Jason has already alluded to me, there is more than one way to see your dreams come true - both athletically and academically.

Good suggestion. We are currently pinning it to the top of the Chat Forum and I have not gotten around to it yet for this week's speaker however.

Josh came up with the good idea to also promote the upcoming show in this forum and I think that has helped raise awareness. I thought of a specific Radio Forum before we even announced the show but also thought, I didn't want to put Julie on the spot to create one. She works more than 8 hours every day at her day job and I didn't want to burden her further. The Chat Forum seems kind of related and was hardly being used so I chose that as the forum to "pin" the upcoming shows and also update the archives. Perhaps if Julie sees this thread and creates a hsbbweb Radio Forum for us that would be great. Not putting any pressure on her to do so however

Tx-Husker, great suggestion. As mentioned previously, we are extremely open to trying new things and new ways to make this service easier and more accessible for those interested. All suggestions will be heavily taken into account, including suggestions about the show format itself. We want this radio broadcast to help as many people as possible and to continue to gain popularity, and hearing from those that listen in is easily the best way to receive feedback for the future.

We are very excited to have Robert Woodard on the program. I recall when I was in high school and following the NCAA Division I Tournament and watching Robert pitch for UNC. He was virtually untouchable. UNC is traditionally one of the premier programs in the country and it will be interested to hear his perspective of how things work for their program, especially being that he both played there and is now coaching there.

I am particularly interested to hear the contrast between different coaching philosophies. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the differences in the coaching styles of the two college coaches we've had on so far, Coach Corral of Memphis and Coach Schnall of Coastal Carolina. Both have had success in their own ways. As we move along, as CD mentioned, Jason Armstrong will be joining us, as will a high profile high school coach. We will continue to work towards getting more guests in the future to try to enhance the broad spectrum of the show and to enable our listeners to have the ability to tune in and try to get a better understanding of how the process works from the coach's perspective.

I know the saying gets old, but I really wish this was around while I was in high school. It's a 45 minute conversation with a college coach where we have the ability to ask him questions about anything we'd like to ask him. It truly is, in my opinion, an outstanding learning experience for all those involved.

Outstanding!

I have a question for this weeks show with Mr. Woodward.

Not sure how to phrase it so I'll throw it out there and Josh or Cleveland Dad can clean it up if they care to ask it.

If a projectable LHP (6'3" 200lb low - mid 80's as a freshman)had Tommy John and lost his sophomore season due to surgery and rehab, but should be good to go come the spring of his Junior year how should he best go about getting exposure. would it be getting on a team for the WWBA tournaments in Georgia in July or would the limited funds be better spent on PG showcases and such. Should he email schools he is interested in to let them know which events he will be at? Pitcher in question is from New Hampshire a region not heavily recruited. Player is interested in leaving New England to play if possible. Average student at best. No idea of current velocity as not to that point yet in rehab...

I guess I am basically asking how a physically projectable Junior LHP from a small state like NH goes about getting noticed, especially where his JR year will be his first as part of varsity rotation. He has no exposure coming into year as lost his whole Sophomore year and freshman fall season to injury.

Hope that made sense...lol

Also posted this in the Chat thread in the General Section.

redsox8191 - we'll be sure to ask that question.

Hope people can join us this evening at 11:00 PM for a chat with this young man and one of the most most successful college pitchers of all time. We'll chat with him about his own recruiting experiences and playing experiences and transition that into what he looks for now when recruiting a player.
ClevelandDad and JH,

Though I'll probably have to listen to the replay tomorrow, I'm definitely looking forward to the interview. If the conversation allows, it would be interesting to hear Robert talk about the differences he now sees in the recruiting process as coach vs his recent experience as a player (especially since his views will be about the same program/school and the same HC). Robert might also have some interesting insights about balancing heavy D1 baseball and academics.

Welcome to the hsbbweb! We'll be sure to ask!
