I just thought I'd let you people know what happened to my son on 3-28 in his conference opener.
In the fifth inning, a fly ball was hit foul toward the RF fence, My kid and the 2bman raced toward the spot, collision. Result, a complete fracture of the right Tib and Fib. Surgery the next day and a 3 day hospital stay. Out for 10-12 weeks. Junior season over in a blink. 2bman unhurt thankfully. If your kid is healthy, remember to be thankful for that. Personally, I'm thankful that my kid will be ok.

rdfrazier - I'm sorry to hear about your son. I've known many kids at the HS level and now college level that have had to battle an injury. That is a heartbreaking situation to see any player have to miss a season.

My son's former HS teammate who's now a HS senior injured his knee last week and is out for the season. I talked to him yesterday to see him battle holding back tears. He's the sweetest kid and I'm just so sorry it's happened.

Even with that, most of us are so fortunate to have our kids be healthy and happy outside baseball. When you see some illnesses and injuries that many families have to face, we should all be grateful that we are more fortunate.

Thanks for the reminder to cherish what we have.
rdfrazier,

Very sorry to hear the news and hope the recovery goes well and the future is bright.

On a second note.........

Welcome to the HSBBW PIP (Parents of Injured Players) support group. We are a very selfish group that DOES NOT encourage or want new members, but we welcome all that qualify. This years membership level is way too high Frown and as a result I am requesting from MN-Mom additional funds to re-stock the cooler for our support meetings that occur on days ending with the letter "y".

rdfrazier,

So sorry to hear about your son, but you definitely have the right attitude! Best wishes to him for a speedy recovery. On the bright side, it seems like a complete comeback from broken bones is more predictable than soft tissue injuries.

rz1, thank you for letting me know that the support group now has a name, PIP! As of about a week ago, I joined the group. My son (college soph RHP) has an injury that hopefully will prove to be minor.

I don't know what to do about your request for cooler restocking, other than to officially announce:

NO MORE NEW PIP MEMBERS! We have reached the full quota of injured players this spring! Everyone else, continue with your happy, healthy and successful season, and DO NOT join this group!

Wink

rdfrazier ~ so sorry to hear about your son's injury. I am also a member of PIP this season. You can check out my experiences in the Ladies Lounge under "Season is Over" or in the Ohio/Ky thread under "High School Experiences". I agree with you on the things that are important and with Mn-Mom, "we don't need any new members." Will keep your son in our thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted on the recovery.
