Good question, which MAY create a different answer depending upon.......

Why does your son think he would never attend a particular school? Is it a school that he knows has too high academic standards? Is it a school that is too big? too small? Does not offer his major? He doesn't like the baseball program?

Depending on the answer to these questions could mean that MAYBE he doesn't know enough about the school and should try to find out more about it before saying he would never attend there.

In the end, if you don't respond, the coach will figure he is not interested and will probably take him off his mailing list.

If, in the final analysis, there is no way your son would attend the school in question, option B appears to be a very sound, mature approach. There is a possibility in this scenario the coach may ask why he is not considering his school as an option. Depending on the reasons, and whether or not he wants to share them with the coach, this could create an awkward moment.....food for thought anyways...

We're in a similar situation. And I'm also not sure how to proceed. A D1 college continues to contact my son despite the fact that he's filled out the questionaire (twice) indicating a GPA and SAT score that is not up to the admission standards. I know that some colleges can "get around" the strict admission standards (he's a 3.0/1320 SAT type), i'm not sure why this college persists. My son would love to go. But we're not sure how much pull the coach would have with these grades/scores. We might know more this weekend after my son attends a camp and gets to meet this coach. But curious how to proceed.

Fill out and return everything that is requested from each and every school

WHY???

Simple --the school your son has no inclination to at this time may end up being the only school offering him anything---keep in mind that the player is not in the drivers seat---do not knock any schools out of the race because you dont know what horses will be left at the finish line

I agree. He fills them all out. You never know what will happen.

Definately fill them all out......The school my son initially signed with was not even "on his list"......

the coach, the program, the facilities and the $$ changed everything......

4 reasons to fill them out......

1. Coaches network and who knows where your name will come up.

2. Variety is the spice of life.

3. It doesn't hurt when another coach asks who else are you interested in and you can say I've been in contact with........

4. And the big reason. Why not?

Now that we are returning all questionaires do we check off the box "Not Interested" when asked the level of interest? There are some schools that my son would not consider under any circumstance, so why not be honest?

Here is the number one reason why you should fill out all questionaires early in the process and never check not interested.
When son got questionaire from Clemson, he knew little about the program or coaching staff or the school.
If he would have checked off not interested, wonder where he would be today.
As the process begins, fill out everything, then you can narrow down choices, just as they will with your son.

Can i ask why he would never go to those schools? This doesnt have to be answered fyi, it just might help us realize why you wouldnt wanna fill out info for them.

Academically the schools are not what my son is considering and any $$$ they might offer would not make a difference.

Again I say this to you all--do not dimiss any school--they may the only one standing when it comes time to make the decision-- there are to many variables involved to say NO to anyone at this point
