Darrell, I disagree. In your clip of Ramirez his hands have moved away from the shoulder area at contact.

I understand your comment. However, at what point would you then assert that the effect I call the power v, but certainly described more appropriately by others, occurs and due to natural forces? I see that ball as one that has made contact and where the ball is now leaving the bat. Not one advocate of the rotational theory, that I've ever read, states that those hands stay connected all the way to finish. In fact, they claim just the opposite. Swingbuilder, would you then assert that Manny is "throwing his hands at the ball?"
Turn2 - your definition of proper hitting gives me the chills, to think that someone actually teaches what you are talking about... your posts sound like I am at the Little LEague park listen to a dad (who is confused anyway) telling all his kids how to hit...

How can your "linear" approach have the follow through (of bathead)level to or just above shoulders... how would you hit a pitch at the knees then???

A-ROD, MANNY??? LINEAR???? You have got to be kidding... Do you ever see research done by Physics Depts done on Rotational Hitting... these guys are poster children for them...

Typically what I see on here is people who think they incorp. rotational mechanics with linear - BECAUSE they think that because they are spinning around while swinging that they are rotational - not so...

CaochB and Zdad - good offerings... try and keep these people straight...

Turnin2- you actually teach squish the bug??? why how for what reason...???
Diablo or any involved,
I am curious, what methods, drills or
explanations do you use to teach a young
hitter?
1.Do you consider bat rotation or torso
rotation drills as necessary to recruit and
develop specific muscle fibers to perform a swing effectively?
2.What type of drill work would you recommend to teach the best position to be in to explode into a swing?
3.What would you teach to control body weight
during the stride?
4.What drill work would you use for a short, quick stroke and to stay closed?
5.Say I have a hitter who is letting his hands
get away from his body and trying to pull the
ball. What would be some of your corrective measures to reinforce staying inside the ball?

Does those Physics Depts have definitions of "linear hitting" and "rotational hitting"? On the previous page of this thread, I asked about a definitive definition of linear and rotational hitting. Since then, a few people have come forward and provided fairly detailed and well-explained descriptions. But they are all different. Until we can all agree on some definitions, I think it's a waste of time to apply these labels to various pro players. It just doesn't mean much.
