For the record, the pitcher for Rowlett was Colin Loftin.
OP, I agree with you about the first inning. I thought it was going to be tighter than it was.
Hope Rowlett has the same outcome tomorrow!!!

Sorry about that Ringer! I realized I messed up the name after I posted it. We should do better tomorrow with a pitcher that throw's harder. I'm assuming Hamblin will be on the mound. Should be a good game tomorrow either way.
Like I said senior leadership would be the key. Along with some very clutch plays from the defense.....Senior on the mound .....soft tossin lefty kept them off balance.......just as the soft toss lefty for Tyler Lee did.......kudos to Carmon for the coaching move. Another contributing factor was the wind was blowing in which kept the Jackets in the park on a couple of hits......Rowlett had 2 errors and still came out on top........look for an error free game tomorrow and the same result.
How 'bout Brandon Loy -- a stud!!!
Between Loy and the right fielder.....they showed incredible defense and highlights of things to come in Rowlett.

I just did a little studying on my notes from the game and you are right JAFO about the senior leadership. The 6 hits that ML gave up, 5 were from seniors. (I'm not giving the guy a hit on the one that our 3rd baseman bobbled and then threw in the dirt to first. They put up a hit on that one, but come on, give me a break on that. A good throw would have had him by a step)
He started off with first pitch strikes on the first 4 batters of the game, and then only had 7 the rest of the night. He just struggled with his command. He couldn't get a good feel for the curve ball. Like I said in the earlier post, he wasn't real wild, but just enough for ol' blue to not be able to give him some of the close ones.
By the way.....the Loy kid to only be a sophomore, all I can say about that is........he's got a big future. He leads the team in hitting as well. (he was 0-3 tonight though, with an RBI) The 3rd baseman made a big league play on one hard hit ball, too! By the way, I think that was the only hard hit ball we had all night!! The Loftin kid pitched a real nice game. Odessa College will definitely be glad he's coming there this fall!!
OP -- how was the crowd tonight? -- an exciting atmosphere, I bet. Was Young Pitcher nervous? (I know PS would be)......it sounds like he did a nice job. Coach Payne knows what he is doing --- I would have held ML for game 2.
Seems like OP's predictions are about as good as mine.

The crowd was pretty good size...to be quite honest, I was expecting it to be bigger....but it was a nice crowd. It started out a little slow, but by the 3rd inning or so, there was lot's of folks there.
I just talked to ML and asked him when the nerves left, and he said "about the 6th inning"! I guess he meant after he came out of the game!! To say the least, he was REAL nervous. I think it showed a little out there tonight, but I'm real proud of the way he did. To keep that team to only 6 hits in 6 innings is saying something to me. Those guys are flat good and can hit the ball. He had 2 K's and one of those was a gimme in my opinion. I think they had only 4-5 swing and misses all night. They are real aggressive and looking first pitch fastball all the way. If it's there, they're hacking.
Matt was scheduled to pitch game two, but Travis Moseley rolled his ankle earlier in the week and wasn't ready to go tonight. He did play and looked fine to me though. He should be on the hill tomorrow for game 2.
It's do or die time for the kids on the east side of the lake!! Or is it south.......I get all turned around here in our new hometown!!!
I'll shut up now!!
Looks like the Rowlett nine win round 1. I was able to catch a little of this game and they looked solid. The Loftin kid cruised after the first inning. Lackie pitched well, but got behind on too many hitters. Rowlett also did an excellent job of moving runners into scoring position.
The Rock will need to capture some of last year's magic to keep this series alive.

OP -- Great experience for your young son as he makes his way down the baseball road of LIFE!! We win some .....and we lose some. What about his sister? Did she have a good game?
We got almost 2 1/2 inches of rain last night here in Rowlett and expecting rain today and saturday. What happens if this series cannot be played by saturday? I'm pretty sure it would be considered a one game series and Rowlett would move on but what about the teams that don't start play until today? What if they can't get a game in? Just wondering.
While we are talking about siblings...Ringer1's #2 son played his first 3 year old tball game last night. Played pitcher and 3rd, fielded four ground balls, two rbi's, and only cried once. Hey, it was a successful night!

Ringer1 -- I think there is a 3-yr old PG showcase event in Waco in early June. To make their top 50 3-yr olds is quite an honor. He only cried once??? Nice! They were out of Tropical Punch fruit boxes after the game, eh? (I hate when that happens).

Probably samething that happened to the Jacket girls last year. Which I believe was they lost
the first game and was then rained out. Which then was a one game series.

Melynda,
Our girls don't play til tonight!!
Thanks for the kudos for ML. He'll bounce back. He was as nervous as a cat climbing a marble wall, which I understand. Pitching in front of a big crowd for the first time can be a little intimidating. That and Rowlett's lineup!! It's not looking too good for today over here. It came a flood last night and I don't think Rowlett has a tarp.
They have Jesuit (all turf) reserved for Saturday and can play 2 if needed. Thats a break for Rockwall. Otherwise it would be over if fields are to wet. During meetings for details, sometimes they agree to drive where ever for a dry field within a ______mile limit.

The crowds have been a whole lot bigger. The previous Coach was very personable and is thought of very highly in town. IMO this could contribute to the crowds.

He is personable, to say the least.

PD - Yeah, I should be getting his invite to the Area Code tryouts soon. And hey...only crying one time. What a feat!!!
Seriously though, it takes you back to why you started your kids playing ball. There's no politics(yet) or any of the other nonsense that goes along with your kids playing ball. It's just pure entertainment.
The Plano East field is probably dry -- give Coach Collins a call!

Cracked me up with that one remembering my two boys T-Ball days. A one cry game was a huge victory.
Is there any way, if found out early enough that Rowlett's field is not playable, they move tonights game to Jesuit?
Rowlett will be playable....Tap the breaks
Sorry. SCCCRRREEEEECCCHHHH
Just got an email and Rowlett is dry.
Game on

The Jacket boys are coming up to Frozen Ropes today to get some hitting in.

Well lets just say it will be playable. There are 30 JV Players working on the field with rakes and diamond dry as we speak.......you are correct with one thing......"Game On"
Hey Ringer1 - Bring a copy of son#2 schedule to the game tonight will ya? Fast Ball Dad and I would love to come watch the 3 year olds

6:00 -- Top of the 7th -- score tied at 3 -- wow, I wish I was there!
6:25 -- Brandon Loy -- game-winning hit! Eagles advance! Congratulations B and Rowlett.
Rock -- good year, you guys have great things ahead. Dads, become eggspert commentators now, like me!

The "Rock" is in bottom of Lake Ray Hubbard as predicted.
Great game. Everything as advertised. I do believe I am correct again with mistakes being the tell tale. Early in game the "Rock mishandled some situations and Rowlett jumped out early. As in true Champion fashion the "Rock" stormed back and the bottom of the 7th was led by underclassmen, Fitzgerald and Loy for the dramatic win. Congrats to the "Rock" a great series and season.

I'll ask the question again. Rockwall still has a great program, but are they being hurt by the diversion of talent to Heath and the departure of the coach? Heath has a great young coach and some young talent. Is the balance of power arond the lake shifting?

I know there will be some backlash from some of the "rock" faithfuls. but, truth hurts. The "rock" program is struggling for several reasons. Coaching and Politics and the new school. The Heath Coach came from the old highschool
The new coach at the Rock is better than the old coach and there ain't nothing wrong with that program. If you want reasons for the drop off I'll give you about 12
Texas Tech ~ Leverton, Kieschnick, & Butler
Texas ~ Lewis, Bishop & Clark
TCU ~ VerHagen & Roland
C. Arkansas ~ Martin
Tabor Kansas ~ Menges
Lamar ~ Williams
Navarro ~ Sawyer
And a string of others out there playing at the next level.
Coach Payne has and will have a solid program year in and year out. I don't understand the use of politics in your post but you are barking up the wrong tree. JMHO

oooooooh....didn't know that. I thought the old coach was pretty good. I wish the new coach well but he is in a little different stage in his career. You also list some of Rockwall's past players. Perhaps, you might do a little research and find that a couple of their younger brothers are at Heath.
The old Coach never had a problem dishing out praise on why the perception of how "good" he was ~ was due to his three top assistants. Payne, Harvey, and Gaffney. They're all running their own programs now and will get in due time their own Payne, Harvey, and Gaffney.
And beenthere, I am aware of the names on the Heath roster........Thanks for caring! I'll leave the research up to you.

I am sorry but from last years jackets varsity roster, 12 of the 15-18 players were seniors, and 8 or so of them had a chance to play college ball. When you lose that many players, it hard to replace them and the record shows it but that happens. Only 4 players from the 2006 team saw lots of playing time in 2005. I don’t understand why the criticism. Coach payne may be a young head coach but he knows baseball and he will be a very successful coach. Coach payne did a great job and the team had a good season. Good luck next year coach.
It isn't likely to happen for obvious reasons, but I'd be honored to have Coach Payne coach PantherSon --- anytime. Rockwall lost to a better team this weekend. There's no shame in that situation. I'm sure it's much easier to coach from here --- especially in hindsight.
Congratulations Rock ---- and keep it rolling, Eagles.
Swingdoc --- beenthere is right....the old coach was pretty good --- any way you look at it.
