My son's best friend while they were growing up has been killed in Iraq. His truck convoy was hit by a roadside bomb. It's just a terrible thing when it hits so close to home. They played baseball together since they were in the 6th grade up to high school. There, they played football.

My son went to college to play baseball, and he is now a senior.
Ignacio (Nacho) Ramirez went into the Army, and he is now a hero to our town.

Just a reminder for us to remember our soldiers. Thank you.

YBM - I'm so sorry for your son's loss. Prayers for him and of course for "Nacho's" family.

My son has a best friend that joined the marines right out of HS. We pray for him daily. Those young men and women that serve and risk their lives are truly heroes!

Again, may God be with the Ramirez family and friends during such a difficult loss.
YBM,

Pardon a dad posting here, but please accept my family's sympathies and prayers.

I lost a cousin and HS classmate in Somalia in 1993. We both have sons who plays sports, the only difference is Gary never got to see his son play. To this day, every single time the National Anthem is played before a sporting event that my son is in I think of Gary and how he never got the chance to watch his son grow up. Most people know who he is and what he did from the movie and book "Black Hawk Down".

I have a picture that I look at often that puts everything in perspective when im feeling down, it is a picture of his wife, son & daughter accepting the Congressional Medal Of Honor for him. You look at that and know what he did, and your own problems of the day are not such a big deal after all.

No matter how one feels about the politics of these situations, we must never forget that we have what we have in this great country because of people like Ignacio & Gary. They were willing to sacrifice their lives to make thia world better for the rest of us.

Again, to you, your son and Ignacio's family, our prayers & sympathies.
Please forgive my intrusion as well....Please accept my heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, teammates and comrades of Ignacio Ramirez.....

I tend to fall back on the words of Abraham Lincoln when the news of a fallen hero reaches me.........

He said:

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom.....

I also agree wholeheartedly with NH...that no matter how one feels about the politics of these situations, we must never forget that we have what we have in this great country because of people like Ignacio & his cousin Gary. They were willing to sacrifice their lives to make this world better for the rest of us.

My morning devotions will be spent with Ashley Dent, Ignacio Ramirez, Gary, and their families in the fore front.....
YBM ...

Sincere condolences for your loss. Nacho paid the ultimate price for freedom for our country and for the people of Iraq. We have no idea what the end result will be in the Middle East, but we do know that we are endebted to young men like Nacho, as well as to their families and loved ones who must now bear the loss. Please extend our sympathy to your son as he mourns his friend.

Dear YourBasicMom & son,

I am an active duty military wife.
Army wife, Air Force mom, going on almost 20 years.
Yet,... I sit here silent unable to come up with the words to make your hurt and pain go away.

Over the years no matter how hard we are trained, no matter how much we have endured, no matter how many lives we've seen taken, the heartache is never lessened.

Every life as precious as the one before and the one after.

My heart aches for you, your son, his best friend's family, and to all who knew service member Ignacio Ramirez.

His duty and ultimate scarifice to his country, shall not be forgotten.

As an American, as a part of the Army family, as a mother, I send not my words,
but my heart felt condolences, my appreciation, my prayers, and my ultimate respect.

God Bless Ignacio (Nacho ) Ramirez, his family, and all who knew him.
Again I say,.....
~ He shall not be forgotten ~
We are so sorry to hear of the loss of one so close to your family. Living in San Diego has given us perspective of what the words duty, honor and service mean. Each day we watch brave Marines and Navy service men and women come and go to put their lives in jeopardy. It's sobering and for our baseball family, and a reminder that playing sports is a gift and a privilege.

To Nacho's family and friends we send our condolences and heartfelt sympathy. We also send our gratitude for his service to his country and fellow man.

A teammate of our oldest is currently serving in Iraq. A teammate of our middle guy will probably be heading there within the next 6-9 months. May all of them come back healthy.

Nacho, his family and yours will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry for your Son losing a friend. My Brother has just returned this past week from there and will be returning in 6 months. It is so scary for our family as I know it is for others. Neither of my Boys have any friends that have enlisted. It is hard for them to understand the sacrifices that these kids make over there everyday. Experiencing that first hand like your Son must be very tough. Like you said though Nacho is a true HERO!!!!!
