I saw a number of parents who seemed to not have the slightest idea how players were being graded and what was considered college material and what was not.

Players were graded by MLB scouts

60 yd
arm, fielding, hitting, hitting power

average High school player 20

average college player 30

above average college player 40

pro prospect 50

Most of the player had 20 ratings, a few 30 ratings.

Parents were like hey my kid is a 20 rating, but thought that was good and acted like Florida State was about to name their baseball field after their kid.

Did I read that correctly? The average size for a RHP in DIII is 5’8/155? If that is the average, it means for every 6’4/200 RHP there has to be a 5’0/110 pitcher in college. And I’ve seen some 6’4/200 RHPs in DIII. In fact, I’ve seen a 6’10 pitcher in DIII. Isn’t the average size of a high school pitcher bigger than that?

Kind of hard to judge having not seen the player play.

His stats are listed at

I know TRHIT it's just amazing how we have become consumed with size and that many translate size to potential. Whether it be on the mound or at the plate. I have been to many showcases and coached at many different levels and have seen showcase studs who bash the ball over the fence or to the wall in BP but can't touch a ball that moves. And on the mound throwing gas yet straight as an arrow. There so many showcase players that look great but can't play and other players smaller who are ok showcase players yet can flat out play when the game starts. Showcases in my opinion are very over rated and a **** shoot. In baseball size should never be a liability your either a baseball player or not.

I am tring to find a good pitching coach to teach him how to use his lower body more, PM me if you know of one. He will have weight training at Tampa Prep this year as a Class.
