Scrimmage Results

Welcome to the board pbg5. This is just my thoughts on scrimmage scores as I really do not think it reflects a teams true identity. I saw where Keller beat Martin by a lot but I am not sure that would be the same out come four weeks from now. It is always best to have the most runs at the end of the game but this time of year "as Obama likes to say" has plenty of "CHANGE" during the game. Our team score more runs than the other Monday but I am not sure what the final run total was. I am sure someone knows but it really does not matter at this point. Our team look good in all areas of the game and that was a good thing. Hopefully they will continue down that road. Our team threw 5 different pitchers and changed players throughout the game. The other team did the same. So does that really reflect what a team will do down the road Just my thoughts on the matter, which as a scrimmage goes, does not mean much.

To me scrimmages offer two things... #1 for pitchers to throw to someone other than their teamates and for the hitters to see live pitching.#2 It give the coach an opportunity to see what the backup players are possibly going to give him under game conditions.

I think that scrimmages are good to start the building block process towards a good season.

You are completely right! I'm right there with you PBG5, so ready for the season to start. Actually, my little brother pitched his way onto varsity last year when Arl. Martin scrimmaged Waxahachie and Mans Summit in Waxahachie. Before that scrimmage he was probably going to be a junior on JV because Martin already had 3 solid senior starters. He had a great scrimmage and eventually earned a spot on varsity and ended up having a pretty good year for Arl. Martin last year....7-0 with 3 saves, 0.68 ERA, 63K's.

Both teams hit the ball well. Both teams top pitchers threw well. Both pitching staffs walked way too many batters. Both teams made too many errors.

Coach Collins and I agreed that was the highest scoring first scrimmage we have had. So much for pitching being ahead of hitting.

The Rock hosted the Sachse Mustangs tonight. 3 hours and 12 innings in some good, warm weather. Sachse has some good-looking seniors that have been starting since 10th grade, and the Jackets still can't hit the Fails kid. Another productive night, though. The Rock heads to Pantherdad's domain on Tuesday to square off with Plano East.

Dallas Christian played North Dallas today in their first scrimmage of the year. A short-handed DC team managed to outscore N. Dal with a walk-off, bottom of the eighth, bases loaded double by senior Will Sloan (I believe it was 11-10).

Offensive highlights for DC included home runs by Jr. Taylor Cooksey and a 3-run bomb by Jr. Ryan Downs.

DC will travel to FW Nolan on Tuesday night for their first non-district game.

From what "I" heard it was a difficult day for the 4A team from Frisco vs PW. It sounded like it would be a long year for Frisco, with very little pitching etc.. I was told that every PW starter had multiple extra base hits and the big boy had (2) round-trippers.

PW very rarely, if ever, plays their starters for an extended time at any point in a scrimmage to give their younger and inexperienced players time in the field. Pretty funny post from a Frisco "fan".

Momandcpa thanks! I was only calling like I saw it. I am not trying to knock or demean any player. Paschal has some great arms, I do not deny.

Contrary to popular belief...great bats...really do beat great arms, occasionally! It's fun when it's your teams bats', and not so much fun when it's the other teams bats!

They may have been taking it easy and/or resting arms. It's really not too smart for pitchers to go all out in these scrimmage games that really don't count. Everyone knows these are just warm-up games. We were just getting our bats warmed up!

All that really matters is...

Can't tell how much tongue in cheek is in the earlier posts re the Frisco and PW scrimmage, but for at least 7 innings it was deadlocked at 3. Wasn't able to see the rest of the scrimmage but my understanding is that it was fairly competitive throughout. I'm highly skeptical of the statement that every PW starter had multiple base hits but it's possible given the 5 1/2 hour duration of the scrimmage. Frisco has a lot of maturing to do in order to compete well in 9-4A but, you never know, they may be able to surprise a few people along the way.
