heath looked real good! They won both games sat. They played sachse and allen. Pitching looked great! Hitting was good.
Hornsr1,
Do you think that PW would be the only team in the state not to play their starters for an extended period of time in a scrimmage? I'm sure that all their players hit the whole time and so did Frisco's. I'm also sure that Frisco didn't play their starters for a whole 5 1/2 hour scrimmage so just accept the fact that it was a level playing field and Frisco played competitively against the defending champs. All the kids played well there is no need to downgrade the kids at Frisco by saying that PW didn't even try. Have respect for both teams and their respective players please.

BSC,
If that is your perception of the practice game, then God Bless you. BTW, the world is not flat.

I'm just curious although I don't know any players on either team but if it was tied at 3-3 after 7 innings seems to me that the little 4-a school did ok.
Im also impressed with the fact that Plano's starters got 18 hits. How did the subs fair?

I guess that's mathmatically possible. Just the starters, get 18 hits in 7 innings and only score 3 runs. With no subs, that's almost 3 hits an inning plus a few walks...how can you not score more than 3.

Usually during scrimmages my son gets 2-3 ABS out of the 4 or 5 hole. Wow... so if every starter got 3 ABS that means the starters were 18 for 27. lmao
Double plays, caught stealing, pickoffs would do!
Seriously though...it would.
I am guessing here, but I bet either we are not getting the whole story here, or something somewhere is a little exaggerated.

From the couple of scrimmages that I have attended (these outings are nothing remotely close to a real game setup) are between 12-14 innings depending on the pitching available. Hopefully that helps those with a math issue.
Teams seem to approach scrimmages in different ways. Some play their starters most of the time and others use every possible player they are considering for varsity to give those players every chance to show what they might be able to do to help the team.
tychcobrat#1's coach played several kids during these scrimmages, including last Saturday when he played three boys fresh out of basketball and had only a couple of practices under their belt. He rotated out most of the projected starters early and gave many AB's to other kids trying to earn a spot. Personally, I think this is the right approach as you need to be able to look at as many kids as possible in game conditions during the short two week scrimmage period.
So, those of you still reading this boring post have to decide whether the score of a scrimmage game really matters. Plano West is the reigning state champs and will be until June. They return several top players and will be in the mix again I would think. They will have to play the whole season with a huge target on their chest and teams will certainly roll out their best effort to try and knock them off. I have no doubt they will handle that just fine.
Frisco sounds like a team that is an up and comer and should be in the mix in District 9-4A. If I were a Raccoon, I would keep my mouth shut about how well my team was playing. Maybe some teams will take them lightly and try and sneak a lesser arm past them...then they can feed on that.
But what do I know, I just slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Well said, wish I was that eloquent. Good job explaining (i didn't) on how scrimmages are handled. Thanks
