I heard that Conner Jones and Charlie Cody were on the 1st team!
From 757teamz...
Great Bridge pitcher Connor Jones, who won his first eight decisions in dominating fashion this season, has been named Southeastern District Player of the Year.
During the regular season, Jones was 8-0 with 62 strikeouts over 43 innings and did not allow an earned run. He suffered his first loss Tuesday in a Southeastern District semifinal vs. Western Branch. Jones has signed with Virginia.
Here's a look at the first and second all-district teams:

Ok let get down and dirty.
COACH OF THE YEAR.....COACH TODD FROM GRASSFIELD
He took a team of good players but no super stars for sure. This year he won more games in the history of the school and then won the SED Tourney by beating WB for the 3rd time this season.I am sure you would all agree since no one gave them credit all year.
Taking nothing from GB but some of the dads on the team could have coach that team to a 17 win season. The have lots of college players an a future MLB pitcher. Give Credit where Credit is due or tell me why he is not coach of the year.
1) votes were in before the tourney. Shaun did a great job and I'm proud to call him a friend but Sean led his team to an undefeated season. Arguments can be made for both.
2) so much for your dramatic sign off from the HSBBWEB a couple of weeks ago.
I did sign off for a few week but am back but will only post things I can report first hand not stories. Hope that is ok....I am not sure the facts are correct on the undefeated season, may want to check your facts. Even if the votes were in before the end of season Coach Todd is the Coach of the year...How He turned this program around from last year....Wow
Great Bridge did lose one regular season game. Their last one, against NR on senior night. There is no doubt that the entire coaching staff at Grassfield has done a fantastic job, and I understand your point of view.
On the other hand, there is one program in the ENTIRE STATE that is currently nationally ranked. They are the Great Bridge Wildcats. I would also like to point out that the GB program has had a target on its back the entire season, and those young men have carried themselves in a way that everyone within that program should be proud of.
At the end of the day these accolades are voted on by their peers. ie, the coaches voted for the COY. Ergo, the coaches believe that Coach Townsend is the COY.
Nonetheless, I'm sure Coach Todd appreciates your support.
On another note: Sean Townsend has been involved many years with the development of this team.

Balls - Make your case for Coach Todd, and a good case can be made, but don't minimize Coach Townsend's coaching pedigree/credentials by claiming the team's Dad's could have coached the team to a 17 win season. While there are undoubtedly high school teachers who are former players out there masquerading as baseball coaches, Townsend is not among them. Watch GB in pregame, go watch them practice and compare that to most of their opponents. He's directly responsible for that and the team reflects it. They practice like they play and play like they practice.
Congrats to all the kids selected to 1st and 2nd team. I know the process was fair, and upheld to the highest standards, but how does one of the only full time players(senior) at river with ZERO ERRORS and only 5 STRIKEOUTS on the season get left off this list? like it was said before its a popularity contest.
To answer your question, I'm pretty sure coaches nominate their players for consideration. Not implying your player was or was not nominated, but just pointing out the process.
Pretty sure your right go dawg.
Wishing all the teams from SED good luck in regionals. Thank you also to all the coaches at River for giving up time away from their families to be with our sons. Have a great summer.
There are always good players who have good seasons who are left off. In observing some of the views of "this kid did this, how come he's not on the team", I think something very important should be recognized.
One's assumption that his kid, or any particular kid should be recognized, also assumes that there were no other kids from other programs who had BETTER SEASONS!!!!
Perhaps one player had a good season but there were 3-6 others who were simply better. Just maybe, the young men who were selected also played superb defense, struck out only a handful of times, and in the process hit for a higher average, more offensive production, stole bases, etc.
I think the popularity contest discussion is bogus. There are a few young men that some might regard as "popular" (and very talented) whose names are missing. In addition, prior to the announcement, there was another gentleman on this site arguing that no one from the bottom half of the district gets recognized because they play for poor teams. Well, looks like there is a 1st team catcher, and a 2nd team outfielder from programs that finished in the bottom half of the district, and I would suspect that there was discussion regarding others. (in light of someone mentioning that Packert got HM)
For my money, there is another outfielder who was not named to either team that one could make a serious argument for. He does not play for either "river". I also assume his numbers didn't stack up to those who were selected.

Your second team SS had close to 20 errors on the season. Yea he may be young but he is not the second best SS in the SED!!! I don't know who got Coach of the Year and I'm not up here to say who should have it or not, but last year one Coach got in a crap load of trouble after a 2-1 lose. How he didn't lose his job is the political question everyone should ask. How can you belittle kids in that manner and even have a job the following year?!?!?!? I coached JV and yelled at my kids and was in the Principles office the next day. Never once embarrassed a kid. Like one truly did.
For all you sore loser dads....I'm sorry that you guys or the Peanut Gallery doesn't get nominated for votes!!!! That's why there is one HEAD COACH and the rest of you are on the other side of the fence. Grow a pair (BASEBALL DADS) and understand that there are coaches that are just smarter then the rest. I know it's tough to accept as a man but come on!
You are wrong regarding the 2nd team shortstop.
I understand why you or someone else might have the opinion you do, but if you consider what I wrote a few weeks ago...
Reminder: "In the absence of a great defender, Rivers is the best offensive SS in the district and one of the best offensive players at ANY position."
The fact that you know that one shortstop made double digit errors, does not make you an expert, when it is obvious that you are not privy to the production of the rest of the district!!!! I said it before, it was a young year at the position. The district lost some experience and superb talent at the position. Now, take away McPherson, due to injury, and what you have left are the two best baseball players who play the shortstop position. Those two were voted in.
You may want to take your own advice regarding the peanut gallery, since you are part of it. As you mentioned, there are HEAD COACHES who may know more than you and I, and there were 10 of them who voted for the accolades. Apparently, a great majority of the head coaches in the SED have a different opinion of the 2nd team SS than you do. I suppose that either they are all stupid, or maybe, they have more information at their disposal.

Apologies. I had posted within 48 hours of the new poll having come out. Didn't see it! Good luck to teams in the tournament!
