Aaron did especially well in the Spelling Bee. Most of the words that he was asked to spell were seemingly appropriate for him...he swatted them out of the park with ease...like a batter facing a pitcher lobbing volleyballs right over the center of the plate.

He stumbled on switch-hitter...he forgot the hyphen.

Umer, an avid baseball player himself, who has played in a baseball league in Al Khobar for four years is, remarkably, an accomplished switch-hitter...he didn't forget the hyphen.

Considering Aaron's size it makes you wonder what they put in the oil over there!

I remember him from last year, and if I'm remembering this correctly he was NOT very good at all. Ugly ugly swing.

I know everyone is talking about him, but what about the batter ahead of him in the lineup. 6'3" 215. He looked much more physically mature (muscular, etc). I also thought it was funny that the batter after Aaron was 5'1".

So, which MLB team is going to be the first to assign Mideast scouts now?

In yesterday's game, they stopped play and asked for this boy's birth certificate.

He pulled a crumpled piece of notebook paper out of his back pocket. In crayon, it was written...

"I am 12."

(Sorry, but that's the funniest part of Benchwarmers...otherwise it's an awful movie)

At that size, I'd be amazed if he could play. Many big 12, or even 13- and 14-year-olds, are pretty goofy at that age. And they're not nearly that big.

Frankly, I hope the young man enjoys the game and tries to stay with it for awhile. My guess is he'll enjoy it a lot more in 4-5 years than he does now.

All those "mid-east" kids on the S.A. team are American, most likely sons of oil workers/execs, or soldiers assigned to the area.

I know this young man, and he is one of the most respectful young men I have ran across and comes from a very good family. His father is the manager and he is 6'8 himself, the doctor has told him he is projected to be 7'5, that said, I am sure that he will be more likely to pursue basketball rather than baseball, so look for him on the basketball courts rather than the baseball fields in a few yrs.

Projected to be 7'5"? That doesn't rule out baseball...if he can pitch the MLB clubs are probably drooling...he'll make that 7'1" potential recruit from The Netherlands look small!

No wonder he has an ugly ugly swing though. He's only 13 (or is he?), the motor skills haven't developed enough and he's got all that limb to worry about. Kinda hard for him to have a decent swing at that age and size.
