Hey everyone, I'm currently a sophomore in college, even though I'm in college I don't play baseball right now. I was very lightly recruited locally out of high school but I went elsewhere and decided not to play. Since than I have made great increases in my velocity just through working on my mechanics and flat ground work. I havn't been clocked ever (I don't play in a league = /) but I have a friend who I throw with now and then who plays D1 who hits 95mph, and by sight are velocities appear very close if not the same. However to not overrate myself I'll say I can hit 85. Now I really love baseball and I would like to tranfer out of where I am now and play college ball but I don't know how I should go about doing that. I'm not in a league anywhere and walking on can be risky so I was wondering what's my best bet to get some exposure. I was thinking about making a video up and emailing it to some schools and seeing what I can get from there, but I don't know if it works that way. I also looked for a showcase but being I'm 20 I don't know if there are any for people like me, I couldn't find any. So I was wondering if anyone can give me some advise on what I should do. Any help you can give me would be greatly greatly appreciated.

why not consider walking on at the school you're currently attending? what's risky about that?

having not played since hs, you'll probably have a tough time stirring any interest unless you dominate a competitive summer league & catch someone's eye who will put a word in for you with some school looking for a pitcher ...
in which case you'd be looking at a transfer & academic setback for more unknowns

I think Bee offers a good suggestion in talking with the coach where you are. I would also suggest to contact those that recruited you out of HS. Were there any coaches that were really big on you back then? Does your HS coach have any contacts? Look for showcases in your area and call them. They may not advertise that they're open for older kids, but may happily accept an older unsigned player.

As far as transferring with academics, if you've only completed your freshman year, that should not be a huge challenge. Unless you're in "Podunk University of the Complete Unknown".... you probably took basic prereqs and they should transfer without a lot of effort.

Let us know how things work out for you too. I suspect there may be other kids out there that share your story. Good luck. Smile
Thanks guys for the advise. I forgot to add that I definitly want to transfer out of the school I'm currently in after this fall regardless if to play baseball or not, simply because I don't like the school. I dont mind the academic set back either, if I was to see one, only because I do still have 4 years of baseball eligibility so I wouldnt mind staying in college for another 3 or 4 years once I get on a team. So I guess in a perfect world, I'd love to find a school interested in me before I transfer so I can transfer to a school that I know I'm going to play, or atleast know that they are interested.

I would love to possibly attend a showcase, I like the idea of calling and seeing if I can, I hadn't even thought to do that because I thought they were strictly for hs players, but it is definitly worth a shot.

Do you guys think sending a video of me playing would have any pull what so ever or none at all??

I can use all the info I can get, so any help you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. Once again thanks for all the advise!
