Oscar Smith will play Lakeland at Harbor Park on Friday, May 7th at 3:30pm.

This game will be played BEFORE the Tides-Toledo game at 7:15pm, so your ticket will get you in to ours AND the Tides game that follows.

If anyone wants or needs tickets, just send a private message on here or email osmithbaseball@yahoo.com to purchase.

Tickets are $9.50 (same as a normal general admission ticket - so you get the high school game free).

THANKS FOR ANY SUPPORT!

Tuesday's best game is GB v Hickory. Both coming off meaningful losses. I think this could be a very tough spot for GB. I expect Hickory to play an emotional game and if GB isn't ready they could get upended.

I look for scoring and a close game. GB will play more fundementally sound ball and get out of Dodge with the W. Something like 7-5 or 8-6.

WB and GF will roll to 11-2.

I agree. Ought to be a great game tonight at Hickory. Great Bridge will bring it.

For OS - Trailing 3-1 in the 2nd (on 3 unearned DC runs), Hunter Kinsey ('10) busted open the Smith offense with a three-run double. Kinsey also pitched the last 2.1 innings(1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 Ks). Stephen Lorkiewicz ('12) was 3-for-4 with a 2B, 2 runs, & 2 RBI. Caleb Ferrell ('12) was 3-for-3 with 2 runs, while Tim Brock ('11) was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs.

Great Bridge 1 Hickory 0. Great Bridge scored the lone run, an unearned run, with 2 outs in the top of the 6th inning. Lighton, Hickory's starting pitcher, allowed only 3 hits in 6 innings of work but did issue 6 walks, putting himself in some tight situations at times. In the top of the second, with bases loaded, Evan McCloud, right fielder for Hickory, caught the fly ball and gunned the runner out at the plate to keep GB from scoring. Great Bridge left 11 runners on base. Flaherty, the starting pitcher for GB, also worked 6 innings, with 13Ks, 4 BBs and 1 hit. Ryan Vanassche pitched the 7th inning for the save but it was not without drama. The first Hickory batter reached on an error, the next batter smoked a line drive to the SS who doubled the first batter off at first. The third batter reached on a single and before the fourth batter could complete his at bat, RV picked off the runner at first to end the game.

Just a follow up on the GF/KF game, GF didn’t have the same intensity as they had the week before and showed on the field. 2 errors by GF’s SS caused 2 unearned runs in the 3rd. KF’s SS made some outstanding plays including a 6-4-3 with the tying run at third. GF has some concerns with the Defense and if the offense cant get going down the stretch – it doesn’t look good.
Western Branch 6 King’s Fork 5. KF outhit WB, 13 to 9, scoring 3 in the top of the 7th to tie the ballgame. WB scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th on a 1 out single with bases loaded. For KF, players with multi-hits were #9 who was 3 for 3, Riddick who was 3 for 4 (S, 2B, HR) and Travis Cherry who was 3 for 4, including bringing home the tying run in the 7th. For WB those with multihits were Garrett Brooks, who was 2 for 4, and Nicholas Thompson, who was 3 for 4, including the walk-off single. Tommy Bradshaw, pitching in relief, picked up his first varsity win.

WP: Applin (1-2) LP: Waterfield SV: Kinsey (1)

For Lakeland: David Waterfield threw a CG and walked none (walked none in 7 innings last time). Tyler Strange had a single and Colby Bennett had a double for the two Lakeland hits.

For Smith: Troy Applin ('11) - 5 IP, Michael Foreman ('13) - 1 IP, and Hunter Kinsey ('10) - 1 IP combined on a 2-hitter with no earned runs allowed. Kinsey relieved Foreman in the 7th with a runner on first, no outs, and a 2-0 count on the batter, but struck out all 3 batters he faced for the save. Brandon Davis ('10) was 3-for-3 with a triple, a run, a SB, and an RBI. Stephen Lorkiewicz ('12) was 1-for-2 to continue an 11-game hit streak.

KF showing some big improvemnt as the season has gone on. Taking on two of the district heavyweights in 3 days beating GF and taking WB to the limit. Add in OS continuing development and the depth of the district is really improved from March. OS is in quite a spoiler position with GF and WB left and Hickory can really hurt GF with a win tomorrow at home.

Kind of surprised NR got spanked they way they did by GB. GB still has KF, DC and LL left before WB. They beat these 3 by a combined 40-2 first time through. They won't dominate like that this go round but it is looking more and more that they have a strong chance to be sitting at 15-2 when that WB game is played in two weeks.

That means anything more than 3 losses probably knocks you out. So GF will need to win out to have a chance and WB has to take 2 of 3 from GF, OS and IR. Great two weeks coming up with big games every game day from here to the end.

Grassfield beat Hickory. But I heard that Todd kept up his reputation and degraded his seniors for winning a game. Think score was like 7 to 6.

The score was 2-0. Very well pitched game on both sides.

Excuse me. 2 - 0. But heard that he still walked out on his players after losing KF game the other night. Indian River will take it again this year. Better coach better team.
The score was GF 2 Hickory 0 with GF scoring once 1 in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings. Jason Ingrahm pitched a great complete game for GF, facing 22 batters, allowing 1 walk and 1 hit (and that runner was caught stealing) while striking out 8, one K each inning except 2 Ks in the 7th. He had command of his pitches and was efficient, throwing approximately 82 pitches in the game, with only 63 thrown through 6 innings. Brock Jaeger went the distance on the mound for Hickory, also pitched well, just not as sharp as Ingrahm. Jaeger walked 2 batters, hit 2 batters and allowed 6 hits. For GF, Ingrahm had 2 hits while each of Cody Cox, Nykolai Ellis, Jordan School, and Greg Milner had 1 hit. Matt Campbell had Hickory's lone hit.
