One or two firms make special pitching shoes with reinforced toes to withstand wear that pitchers exert. Is anyone familiar with such shoes? Do they offer other advantages for pitching?

How about gloves for pitchers? What are the requirements? I guess the ideal one helps hide the ball and is also ideally suited for fielding that position.

Other tips for the well-dressed pitcher? Turtlenecks, under armor?

My son didn't care for any toe protectors, we just resolved ourselves to the fact that cleats needed to be replaced quite a few times a year. What we did find was that he had a tendency to rip out the front cleat often. Didn't matter what brand he wore. I don't know why it just happened.
My son preferred using a smaller all purpose glove, stay away from two tone as he was not allowed to use his at several tournaments and HS games. The "best" glove was the one that looked like it needed to be replaced 2 years ago. He does prefer muzuno over other brands, not sure, but that is what he has always worn and still to this day.
Despite what others have written about UA, he felt that it was a must for him, all weather.
Our son doesn't like the toe protectors either. I just have to fork out money for new cleats every few months or so. They all wear out pretty quickly, I thought Mizuno lasted a bit longer, and Pumas wore out a bit quicker. He always has an under armour on, whether it's short sleeve or long sleeved. You just can't wear a white long sleeved one. He uses a black Rawlings glove that was made for pitching, before that he had a Wilson A2000.
WHen I pitched in college in he 70's a pitcher's toe was leather and steel and bolted on to your spikes on the bottom and came up to the first couple of eyelits. They lasted long and provided nice protection.

Today's platic pitcher toes look cheap and useless. I have not seen any that look like they would last. We are a disposable society and that goes for spikes as well....
Unless the weather was hot ( > 90 degrees), I had my pitchers wear a three quarter sleeve under their jersey (or under armor if they preferred). And put a jacket over the arm between innings. Keep the arm warm.

As far as gloves, for maximum protection I recommended my pitchers use 13" gloves. With today's aluminum bats and the incredible speed that a hard liner can come back with, I like to see pitchers with a large glove.
For pitching toes, we've used the Hurler Athletic Company for the last 3 year.

ProtecToe

They do custom pitching toes, catcher's toes and injury protection. It is guaranteed to last or you can send it back and they will re-do at no cost. We have never had to send the cleats back to be re-done.

Son has recently switched to Minuzo cleats because he found them to be more comfortable and he uses the Wilson A2000 glove when he pitches.
***Pitchers Only***

One size larger in the uniform...for comfort

no sliding girdle...

Use loose undershirt...preferably cotton

If Underarmour one size larger than normal.

Mizuno 13" Black glove

Plan on replacing cleats every season...either because they grow out of them or because they wear them out so quickly...best are Mizuno due to construction.
