Not sure, but I’d guess Linear bit the dust! angel I missed the funeral, but think it took place a week or so ago.

His epitaph reads:

Here lies Linear who devoted his life to arguing about baseball mechanics.

His goal was to change the game he loved so much.

He spent endless hours trying to educate those who have been misled by the establishment.

He touched many with his not so soft spoken, good natured, demeanor.

A former softball great, raised in Gods Country, he was a multi-talented man who is best known for his 9-ball exploits.

If anyone will come back to this earth as another, it will surely be Linear.

He will return to earth as a strong proponent of rotational hitting and quick pop times.

His strong beliefs and persistent nature will never waiver.

He shall return with a colorful name that will become well known in HSBBW circles.
(Read Slow)Russell was one of my first student/prospects. He worked very hard for me as a teenager and has a drive seldom found by any player anywhere that I recognized very early on. He was just like me, obssessed and totally devoted to what he was trying to accomplish in the game of baseball and that carries on to this very day as you can easily see in reading this article.

He has persisted, not given up, and reached the pinnacle and launching pad to do what I always believed he would do. He is ready now. His batting average, OBP, Slugging Pct. have all been gradually rising each and every year to date. My original reports sent in said he would become close to .300 hitter with ability to hit as many HRs in one season as Roger Maris did in 1961.

There are several great quotes in this article by Russell Branyan that show me he's a winner.

I love winners! You are all winners!

Same clip but just looked at it about 5 more times. Amazed at the quiet nature of body posture during the swing itself.

It's as if he is a stick in a carousel. Beautiful, just beautiful. BTW, in my recent virtual tour of HOF, I noticed jersey and display acknowledgeing Pete Rose. This was great to see fo sho. IMHO

This is one of the better clips for dissecting I can find.

Anybody feel free to jump in and start an aspect of swing/analysis.

Would also like to say impact against that front side is tremendous !

Wow !!!

This has to be a 100MPH+ line-drive bored to the point of screaming through the OF at the speed of light...well maybe not light but sound anyway.

Gonna put clip on this page to so we won't have to go back and forth. Shep

You think Blue has figured out I am serious about getting what he has also?

So..What's up. Don't want any loco en cabeza comments Did you ever get PM before being reincarnated? I sent catching clip to my Dad and he said that you two have identical techniques. He was simply amazed at level of catching ability of 50 year and told me to tell you 50 was just a number Wink Shep

Or is it ok as long as you sit to hit?
Seems like its ok because you will bend at contact .I still dont like it. Again I want to thank you all. I have absorbed much.

What “I think” I see when I watch the best hitters is that the bat is perpendicular to the upper torso and the hitter adjusts his tilt over the plate to account for the pitch location. (I would not have made this observation without the material available from P A U L N Y M A N and S E T P R O.)

A hitter hitting a pitch high in the zone will look like he is standing straight up. A hitter hitting a pitch low in the zone will look like he is bent over the plate.
well, think of it this way. If your body is closed when your front foot lands, and your leg is bent, and then your hips turn very quickly, your leg can't get any longer, so the leg straightens out. I believe that the leg becomes stiff (rigid, etc.) AT contact, not before. Its kinda like all the energy coming together for that one split second at impact where everything is put toward contact.

Having some bend from the waist puts you in a more athletic position. Teaching a hitter to intentionally keep his body erect is foolish. There are many college programs teaching this ****, and as a result collegiate numbers are down dramatically. The only ball that you will hit well being straight up is the ball a little up and in, while the ball away can only be cast at. The bend from the waist doesnt have to be dramatic. Schools in the Pac-10 are actually telling thier hitters to keep shoulders vertically in line with their hips.....what clowns. In any sport, there needs to be bend from the waist (golf, football, hoops, baseball wrestling)...its flat out more athletic to do so.

hey guys... not sure what all of this "standing up straight" stuff is... but while looking at the video of the great Ted W., i notice a handful of things...

as the pitch is apparently on its way, TW counter rotates (what most people call "loading up") his upper body... and as he wants to initiate his swing, he drops the front heel (locking lower leg bones into femur, into hip)... as he does this, you can begin to see the torque develop in his body (lower body open, top half closed) and the great force of his rotation is why his back leg comes off of the ground (NO BUG SQUISHING HERE!).. and he is begining to "sit" on back leg, getting a good body lean, so his hands can work "inside the baseball."

Also, as far as follow through goes, I would think the lower the pitch, the higher the follow through and the higher the pitch, the lower the follow through... also i notice his fromt elbow actually working slightly up giving him a slight upswing (helping match the plane of his swing to the plane of the pitch).

i think too many people coach "personal style" rather than proper mechanics, because the "personal style" they see for a number of seconds before pitch and mechanics happen in milliseconds...

any thoughts?
Thank you DeeMack
That is exactly where my son is having problems away and low. By the way it is not being taught it is being forced on him.As I said not only no bend at the waist butt must be tucked in under,do not go after the ball. By standing up straight your eyes are pushed further away from everything, ball, plate, strike zone, etc making exerthing more difficult. While last year he had sucess this year he is not doing as well.As I watch his oportunities for next year dwindle (2nd year jc) It's funny you should mention the Pac Ten we are in socal. One thing for sure wherever he goes you can bet we will discuss hitting with coach. Another thing he likes is standing on top of the plate ,as I watch many of his hitters stand there helplessly as curves drop in for called strikes
they are so close they can't even swing .Any way thanks again.
goMo,

You must first create a folder in my documents on your desktop CPU, preferably under pictures, both videos and pics can both be saved there.

When you right click and get grey box just click save as and CPU will automatically save it for ya with current name of original image/clip.

Some sites have watermarks and claim to have copyrights so be really careful what you do with these scans, uploads, etc...

IF you get caught reproducing and selling images/clips for financial gain, some will get really nasty with you about it, so please be very careful bro. peace, Shep

any way around that??

goMO,

Right-click on the GIF, select Properties. Triple-click on the Address value to select the whole thing. Right-click on the selection and select Copy. Now go paste that into a browser Address and press Enter. You'll see the graphic in IE, ... which ALSO means that it is now in your Temporary Internet Files folder. You can now go there and copy/paste it somewhere else on your hard drive.

I'm not sure why this happens so much, but I get it too - it usually thinks it's a BMP file. PITA, but it really only takes < a minute.

Regards,
Sandman
thanks Shep and Sandman!

but when I right click, it is shown as a .gif file, not any type of video file. I copied the link into a new browser, and the video did come up (I thought gif files were pictures, not videos...).
But when I did a search for it, searching for "DLeeside.gif", my computer came up with nothing. odd...
