I have just finished reading the Grass is Greener on the other side post and am quite honestly appalled.

This is not a forum where we all have to agree. But there needs to be a respect factor here.

I do not always agree with TRHit and BigHit15 and others. But my reaction is to explain to them why I disagree with their statement at that time.

If I just call TRHit a name then my point is meaningless. But if I give facts on why I disagree than my point has some backing.

TR and BigHit are among the more knowledgable posters on this site. We can all learn from them if we just listen.

In the Danny Almonte thread BigHit15 came on and suggested that the young man may not be eligible to play in Florida. He did not make that statement because of any reason other than that was his educated opinion. I happen to agree with him, but if I didn't I could present a case to prove him wrong or just say nothing. I would not attack him personally.

There have been two threads that have had great starts, but then had to be locked because a person has clearly hijacked the threads and sent them on different directions.

This is America and we all do not need to agree. But this site cannot work as an informational tool if all we do is fight amongst each other. We can learn from each other if we give posters a chance to tell their stories and share information. If too many people get attacked this site will end up something to be avoided - not welcomed.

So I urge you to listen to my mother. She told me one day that if I didn't have anything nice to say I should not say anything. In the last few years I have learned that statement is very important.

That doesn't mean to not defend your point of view. But if does mean to not attack any person on this site personally. Life is too short to hate anyone.

Sorry for the length of the post, but thank you for your time.

Good points Coach!

I too have been somewhat surprised by some of the snipping going on in other threads where I think some very low blows have been delivered.

In my particular case, I have found it pretty easy to screen those who are likely to offend so it really doesn't bother me too much. I realize your point is broader than whether or not we can personally screen out offensive material. On the flip side, I have witnessed some people blow off some steam, and then when called out, actually apologize with a fair amount of contrition.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
I guess you missed this item that hijacked the thread...

Prior to this I had not addressed Mr. TRhit so his unsolicited attack was totally intentional to stir the pot.

He does this all the time then feigns innocence, and you guys all fall in line and kiss his a-ss.

Here's his innocuous post...I can hear him right now...who me?

If a kid at the HS level and his parents feel as you do about the year to year thing the kid will go nowhere--- coaches do not like players with "itchy feet"--they like stability

As for "stark realities" as you term them-- you better look in the mirror--because you seem to have no idea about reality--live in your Marin County dream world sir--you will continue to be disgruntled with the world around you==what was it , 4 High schools your son attended in search of the "perfect coach" ?

Let me say to all here. I come to these boards for the same reason all of you do. To converse and discuss BB. To exchange ideas, and give my views of what I either learned or have experienced in my many years having been associated with the game when I was younger, and now that my son is in college.

But I also will take whatever pleasure I can derive from any profunctory assertions are thrown at me. Though I find it detestable that it is necessary for me to defend myself here.

Lest you don't understand, that means if you attack me personally...duck.

PIC,

Try to use the following line of thought. If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything. I have been attacked on this site and just let it pass without response because the attacker was wrong or ignorant. It did not serve me any purpose to attack back and fight them.

That is what I'm asking you and others to do.

It is getting to the point where I don't want to read this site anymore because of all the garbage collected on it. Plus there are good people who are afraid to post for fear of being attacked.

I for one will leave this site if this negative attacking trend continues. This site can and has been great over the years thank to the Grand Poobah, but had declined recently into a state of complete fear and negativity. This site deserves better than that.

So to all who are negative I ask that you try and heed my words for the survival of the site.

Mr Pincus

I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have turned the other cheek...it doesn't work. Once the "in crowd" determines that you have your own voice and it is not in monolithic tone with theirs, you become a pariah.

I know you mean well, but I won't hold my breath.

I hope your son does well.

If you like the confrontation so much... maybe a karate discussion website would fit your style better?

There is a "BIG" difference between attacking ideas and facts that may be incorrect, etc and being attacked for the person that you are at VERY "personal level".

I will debate with you anything you want, as long it's about ideas. But if attacked at a personal level, I reserve the right of self-defense, as all human beings do on this earth.

As I am not a follower of the PHYSICAL art of self-defense, and have no interest in it, I'd rather use a more modern weapon for self-defense, called being a "Word Smith".
Folks,

I have always tried to instill in my sons to take to the high road and stay there. If one is faced with "getting called out", if that's the correct current phrase, you can either jump down in the gutter and verbally have at it, or stick to the high road. How offended can you really get when 99% of the people know you on here as a board name as opposed to your real name?

At times we just need to chill. Early on in my practice of law, I was taught that when dictating "mad letters", to put them away a couple days, and then decide if I really want to send them. It was great advice that has served me well. Rarely if ever have I felt them same a couple days later, and the letters go where they should, to the "round file".

Developing a personal "pause button" is a great way to keep one's foot out of one's mouth.
Hirrel13,

I too quit posting because of the constant attacks and seldomly even come to this site because of all the fighting.

Mr. Pincus,
Kudos to you for telling the truth about what has happened to this site.

Pic,
Everything you say is the truth.

OnePlayer'sPop,
It's poster's like you that are the problem. You know it all and are on the bandwaggon with the other know it all's who continually discredit the innocent posters who arrive at this site. And to all you other other people that pm or email me and ask me "Do you know who his kid is?", I say this : It doesn't matter.

I pause all the time, take a moment to understand the underlying meaning of a post and usually find it to just be another attempt at insult or contemptousness for civility.

Look Mr. Hokieone, I know exactly why I'm being attacked on a personal level. People feel insecure when dealing with someone they perceive is trying to be uppity...but I refuse to act as a lowly uneducated peon from below the border just satisfy there own environmental comfort zone.

I didn't go all those years to school, spend 30 years in Hi-tech, to now, all of a sudden try to pretend that I'm a blue collar union member.

I am who I am, and I have dealt with much tougher guys then this crowd believe me.

Men who run companies are a lot tougher then wannabe coaches and BB hangers-on.

PIC,

I'm trying to help you and this site so please see if the following comments help you.

Stick it your ear and suck on your own vacuum.

Why make that comment? While I agree that HotCorner's comment was not needed; why go back at him with the above comment. Two wrongs do not make a right.

First of all I believe Hokie's advice to be good.

I don't preceive you to be uppity or low class.I preceive you to be a parent of a young man who is pitching in college. Why are you assuming others see you differently?

I don't think anyone wants you to pretend you are anything. I know how hard it is to go back to school as I'm taking my Master's classes right now. I will not tell anyone it is easy. And I have a much better respect for adults who go back to school now then I did before I started these classes.

This is not a tough crowd (at least I'm not). And why attack the whole site when you say 'wannabe coaches and BB hanger-ons". There are some great baseball people on this site. I for one presently coach and know many of the coaches here are excellent. So I ask why attack everyone because you have been unfairly attacked by OPP and HotCornerDad?

Please think about my comments.

PIC,

You come up with some good stuff and build a little credibility and then you p i s s it all away with one of the most self centered, egotistical few paragraphs this board may have ever seen. In one quick swoop you demean others while believing that you are elevating your stature.

With you being the self appointed, educated historian among other things, I challenge you to reread what you wrote and tell us what you think Abraham Lincoln would have thought about it.

Would Abe deem your words worthy of an educated statesman or would he believe they would more likely originate from a simple fool?
PIC,

I guess I am just amazed at he number of threads that grind to a halt, deteriorate to name-bashing or go totally off the good-natured intent that the thread was begun with. Seems like the same posters always manage to be involved.

ChicksDig the LongBall,

I guess you are still stuck in the "bandwagon/wagoneer" phase of your contributions. Since when has PIC been known as a ..."innocent poster", especially as this thread relates to him?

But, you are extreemly right in one thing you post...."It doesn't matter".(who my kid is) My repulsion with those who choose to drag this great hsbaseballweb site down is truely mine and not even related in any way to baseball.

OPP
To One players Pop and the Waggoneers,

I haven't been here in a while and today I decide to check the site out. What do I see, threads about why you all fight. More threads that are closed due to fighting....

The whole problem with this site is you and your haughty attitudes, "Our kids are college players or minor leaguers and we know everything and will guide you high schooler parents"!. I been here a long time and have seen many many many posters thwarted in their attempts to fit into the community. The waggoners just want have it. They control the interests of this site. Maybe there is an agenda or maybe it's just a natural evolution of this message board. It seems that when your kids do move past the high school level that you too would move on let the rest of us have our own experience. We will survive.

I believe a lot of you are reliving your childhood through your children and can't let go because you failed yourself and are making another attempt and by being the godsends here makes you feel superior.
I have a suggestion. You all may not agree but here it is.
Why not make this a pay to be a member site? I am a member of another sports forum that charges $10 a year to be a member. The site has an owner such as Bob and moderators. The site has strict rules to "live" by. No cussing what so ever, no personal attacks to other posters, and so on. They usually warn a poster if he/she is getting out of hand and if the same incident happens again they are suspended. Not forever, but for a length of time until they realize the site will not become what this one has. The money that is recieved goes back into the site for the charges and upkeep. The owner does not get paid. He pays the bills and pays for upgrades to the site which has gotten better looking and easier to navigate since the year that I have been a member.

When I first joined this forum about two years ago, I was here to learn about baseball and how to understand the college and pro process' and what I needed to know to help out my son. And this site has helped me. I never saw any cussing until recently and the fight has gotten worse in the past year. I am like other people here that have quit posting because of the fighting and bickering that goes on. And yes, I have myself lowered myself to give personal attacks against another because I was on the "bandwagon" with the more experienced posters on here. This site is THE best site for learning about baseball and would like for it to be back where it was. I printed out that poster and gave it to my son's HS coach so that other parents could come on here and learn as well. But know I wouldn't do that.

I trust quite a few people on here and some I don't. But before I would let this great site go to pot, I would make some drastic changes. And I would gladly pay $10 a year to discuss baseball instead of reading personal attacks anyday.
Hey everybody! Did I mention that my 9th grade son is playing in his first 30-inning game tomorrow? Temps should be in the low 60's...I can hardly wait! His first official game is about a week away (21st). Big Grin Anyone else feeling the itch?
greenjump

Helpful hint (he says as he "bites his tongue")... repeat these words...common ground, common ground, common ground... Roll Eyes

Ummmm...that's why the site was started in the first place. To help other get through the process of navigating college recruitment and pro ball. But, what do I know anyway?
HCD,
Well we've got the cages and pens tomorrow and the field on Tuesday so I'm not so happy that you've reminded me about what's going on outside.

The entrances to our fields probably won't be passable tomorrow and there's a chance of rain again on Tuesday. If only I hadn't switched with the guy who had it on Monday. noidea
