Well if you have another good pitch in addition to your fastball its possible. But if you just have heat i doubt you can be very effective. Because i top out around 95 mph and my coach at seeing this at the beginning of the year tried to throw all fastballs pretty much. But around the 2nd or 3rd time around in the lineup, even a bad team will start catching up to heat, even if its 95. So i think at least 1 other effective pitch besides a fastball is a must. I have a changeup and curveball.
they say that the best pitch in baseball is a "well placed fastball', if u are locating that 90+ fastball u wont be touched. for example a kid named nick adenhart, 90+ and has control, threw a perfect game, prolly didt have to throw much off speed, but a curve shouldnt be ur only good off speed. CHANGE UPS ARE NEEDED, this is coming from a catcher
i feel that if u have a fastball/change up... you can do pretty well but if you wish to go further than hs then u need to develope a curveball. If u can place your fastball ANYWHERE with ease..i think you'll do awesome. I think the scouts would be very impressed to see u throwing no hitters and shut outs with just a fastball and a changeup.
The thing is, if you learn to pitch without a curveball, it makes pitching with a curveball so much easier. You learn to adjust grips on fastballs to get more movement and play with different speeds, etc. Many pitchers rely on that 1-1, 1-2 curveball to get kids out on. If you haven't had that curveball before, you don't really look to go to it like some kids do. You only have to throw one or two an inning to get people to think about it, while still pitching your old curveball-less game that will be helped even more by hitters thinking about the deuce.
