TC Yankees/Frozen Ropes

Well the kid received 15 stitches just below the knee. I did not see the play. I have only heard one side of the story as well. But I would say 15 stitches is a little more than "no big deal". Just below the knee is quite a distance from first base on a stretch play IMO. Again, I didn't see the play and only have one side of the story so take it for what it is.

The kid will be alright, although he will miss the fall season for some rehab stuff. It's too bad the culprit only missed one game.

Sounds like a biggy to me, but I did not see the play either, and there are two sides to every story. It just always seems that the players that get hurt are the ones that really pay the price, while others who inflect the injury don't ever really pay their dues. Hope the kid that received the stitches is doing better. Good Luck to him.

Glad to hear that the first-baseman is going to be ok.

My son was playing in the game right after this one and I witnessed the play in question... It was bar-none, the most dirty and unsportsmanlike act I've ever seen on an athletic field. Although the Yankees player was ejected from that game and had to sit out the first game of a DH the next day, I think he should have been off the field for the remainder of the tournament and possibly the rest of the summer.

Shame on the Yankees coaches and the player's parents for allowing him to play after serving only the one-game mandatory suspension. I'm sure he learned a big lesson about sportsmanship while he was sitting right outside the dugout keeping the book...

Had that been my son, baseball for this summer would have ended that day. He'd be busy spending the rest of his summer vacation mowing yards and earning the money to pay the other kid's medical bills...

What exactly happened?

The Yankee players had been displaying poor sportsmanship the entire game. One of their players, #13, took 3 or 4 steps towards the mound after being hit by a pitch, lot's of jawwing coming from their dugout throughout the game. The umpires did a poor job of maintaining control and let emotions get out of hand. In the last inning, with the Yankees up by 5 runs, the player hit a ground ball in the hole -- the Frozen Ropes SS made a great play but missed him by a step at first. The runner actually jabbed his left foot towards the inside of the base and hit the first baseman just above achilles. The Frozen Ropes first baseman was in agony and there was plenty of screaming back and forth between dugouts after the umpire threw the kid out. I heard the Frozen Ropes coach asked the Yankees coach to control his players and the Yankees coach who was also the kid in questions father, replied with "look at the scoreboard". Several parents in the stands were very close to blows and 4 Mckinney police showed up. I was in the stands waiting on the next game and got to hear comments from both sides. Best I can tell, the Frozen Ropes parents and coach were only standing up for their kids but the Yankees crew took things over the top. AABC should take action against the Yankees coach and player.

AABC take action, yea right.

AABC has suspended players and coaches. Some coaches have been banned for a year or two. I believe they had one at the CMWS a few of years ago that was banned.

Sad situation. Just goes to show ya that "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"

I hope the young man that was injured has a speedy recovery.

I just hate hearing about these types of things.

I was at this game between Frozen Ropes and the TC Yankees. I am a fan of neither team, I just watch a lot of games in McKinney. I can honestly say that the player in question was not completely to blame. The first baseman's foot was completely over the bag, making it nearly impossible to not get stepped on. It looked like an accident to me.

Also, the Frozen Ropes team was the one yelling explict language across the feild. Yes, some parents of the Yankees got out of hand, I won't deny that. But I think the blame can't solely be placed on the Yankees team.

I feel very bad for the injured player, but I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. I am an unbiased spectator, so I favor neither team. I just hate seeing people jump on a bandwagon when half of the people posting things on here weren't even at the game.

I agree with you Duke that the whole thing needs to blow over. However, the umpire immediately threw the kid out of the game when it happened and I don't think he would have done that had it been an accident. Since my original post, I have heard from a parent on Frozen Ropes and it appears the kid from the Yankees has had similiar events in his past. Come to find out, there is much more to this story that has been written in these posts and I think it should stay that way. No need in making public a bunch of facts regarding an incident that everyone involved would like to forget.

Well of course the kid is going to get thrown out. The Frozen Ropes parents probably would have stormed the feild if he hadn't. It could have gone either way. Every one is just getting so bent out of shape about it because of the extent of the injuries to the other kid. The kid got hurt really bad, so it couldn't possibly be an accident, right? It doesn't work that way. Accidents produce serious injuries just as often.

And in response to Heavy D's comment that that's bar-none the dirtiest play you've ever seen on an athletic feild: you must be watching some clean athletic play, because that wasn't near as bad as incidents I have seen before. Kids get stepped on and cleated all the time. Just part of baseball. Yes, the injury was bad and yes I feel horrible for the kid who got hurt, but baseball players and thier parents know what they are getting into when they sign up.
