Wrong......again.

With a proven track record as a top pitching instructor and recruiter, Terry 'GQ' Rooney is considered a native of DC-Metro area (ie Fairfax C VA.)

He completed his playing career at Radford and obtained a B.A. degree in social science.

Coaching experience includes
LSU
Notre Dame
Stetson
Old Dominion
James Madison
George Washington
Valley League
Cape

Actually Rooney hasn't been in one place for a very long time and his forte is pitching coach and recruiting.
He recruited son when at Stetson then to Notre Dame when he changed positions. We have mutual friends. I actually thought that he may come to FAU but he has strong ties in that area from being at Stetson. UCF is a great area to raise his family and start out.

Many of son's HS friends attend UCF. It's a great area with nice facilities and the basball program should have been pulling better from within our state, but many would not play for that particular program. I see good things happening for our kids here and the program going forward. Those that will not make the larger program here will have better coaching options.

That was probably Cooney at FAU. Rooney recruited Williamson and Korpi from Santaluces for Notre Dame.

I am also pretty sure his father was a long time coach at Miami Dade Community college.

He most recently recruited a lefty pitcher, Matulis from Park Vista for LSU.

The guy will probably do something UCF did very little of down here and that is bring some Palm Beach County talent up to UCF.
Rooney had a big part in taking LSU from the SEC west basement to Omaha in 2 years. I'd be very surprised if he didn't quickly improve UCF. When we were traveling during recruiting he was nearly as omnipresent as that Clemson guy, at the time.

He hasn't stayed anywhere very long, but each job was better than the last and he has a head job now. That said, I expect to see him head coach in an SEC/ACC/PAC10 dugout in Omaha before he is done.

You are probalby right, Rooney had a lot to do with LSU's recent success.
And he was everywhere, I rmemeber seeing him several times in several places that summer around Florida. But he was ab honest guy, he told Dave that he would never be happy at Stetson and stopped recruiting him until he went to Notre dame. I also beleive he recruited Erik Davis to Notre Dame too. Man has a good eye for talent. Big Grin He also has that charm and sense of humor that is really needed to make one feel comfortable.
Catsuremom, yes that was CLOONEY. So confusing. Cool

Either way, this is a good thing for our Florida boys.

That makes him a Florida boy, IMO.

you got a problem with that?

As Rizzi often says, your opinion is wrong and most of the time. Now I understand why Rizzi write this.

Rooney was at Stetson in 2002-2003.
That's NOT that long ago. Rooney himself often says and write he is a native of area noted above.

How about this, I am sending you the same message your sent me in a private pm a week ago for no reason other than you are just a Bear.

GFU.

Just shows where you are coming from and how you, just like some others, come here just to argue and never offering anything of value.

I think you're thinking of Deme Manieri, who was a long-time successful coach at Miami-Dade North CC, and the father of the current LSU head coach.
