If you are talking best hitter or best pitcher, there can be argument. If you are asking "best there ever was" than any answer other than Babe Ruth is a joke.

Do you guys realize just how good Babe Ruth was at pitching?

  • 18-8 in 1915
  • 23-12 in 1916 with league leading 1.75 ERA and 9 shutouts and 0 HR given up
  • 1-0 in 1916 World Series, pitching 14 innings with .64 ERA
  • 24-13 in 1917 with league leading 35 complete games
  • 13-7 in 1918 (and led league with 11 HR)
  • 2-0 in 1918 World Series, pitching 17 innings with 1.06 ERA
  • 9-5 in 1919 (and led league with 29 HR)
  • Pitched 323 innings in 1916 and 326 innings in 1917.
  • After 9 years without pitching at all (11 years since he pitched regularly) pitched a complete game victory in 1930
  • After 3 more years without pitching at all (14 years since he pitched regularly) pitched a complete game victory in 1933
  • 94-46 lifetime record with 2.28 ERA

Best ever? The only question regarding 'best ever' would be who is number 2?
Most beloved player by the hometown fans of all-time?

Got to be Stan "the Man" Musial !

46 years since he played, and he is the most revered and respected man in St Louis.
Poor Pujols!
He has a chance to be only the #2 greatest Cardinal!

Best quote on how to be a great hitter?
Also Musial!

"You wait for a strike, then you knock the **** out of it."

t's so TRhit can justify his position that Willie Mays was the best ever.

Yeah, I know. And no doubt, Willie Mays is in the room...maybe at the front if the criteria is a 5-tool player.

But I think the Big-2 are...

Babe Ruth changed the game in many ways, most importantly raising its popularity immensely.

Jackie Robinson changed the game in ways almost no one else could have.
