Amid all the worrying and feelings about the playoffs, let this story help allow you to keep things in perspective. Having come close to losing my own life this year (I had brain surgery), I certainly can relate to this young man. It's not so much about the destination, but rather the journey.

Such courage of the young man. Prayers.
Do you know the family?

- On another subject: Rumors for the playoffs are
Should tommorrows HS playoff games get rained
out (and this evening's rain is a pretty good
indicator that it's possible), the playoffs will
have a DH on Tuesday at 1:00 pm where the game
will be played at the field of the team who has the bye! For example: (In the 3A East, Atholton (away) is schedule to play at North Harford. Should this rumor go into affect, Atholton will play North Harford at Northeast-AA, where the winner will play Northeast at the second leg of the DH. (Not sure what happens is there is no bye in the round...yet
the higher seed probably would host the DH).

Does the MPSSAA simply desire to get the games in?
I don't think (nor know) the 2008 State Baseball Committee and Director's Office are making this decision. Since the MPSSAA is the governing body for the Baseball Tournament and one of the guidelines as written reads:

6. Unless a specified alternative plan has been approved, ALL REGION GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AT THE HIGHER SEED throughout the tournament.

The option to conduct region contests at neutral or central sites remain. ....

The MPSSAA executive director may grant permission of region games to be scheduled at asite other than the high-placed team. .....

Postponed/suspended region games may required by the State Baseball Committee to be made up as a part of a doubleheader.

Stay tuned. God Bless the Pa teenager.
No, I don't know him. The story was sent to me by a friend. I admire the young man's courage. I also applaud the coach who has really stepped up and made a difference in the young man's life. He's a winner, no matter what his record is. It's funny that in 20 years, the kids on the team won't be able to tell you what their final record was, but they'll be able to tell you in depth about the heroism and courage that this young man displayed. They'll also be able to tell you about what a wonderful human being their coach was. THAT is the mark of a successful season in my opinion.

This rain reminds me of the 2000 season when I was at WHS. We had a regional final game with Urbana and it kept raining. We tried numerous times to get that game in until the very last moment. We ended up getting a small window of time during the early part of the school day when it wasn't raining. After a LOT of work on the field, we got it playable and the game took place. It was worth it, it was one of the best high school games I ever witnessed.

Good luck to everyone in the playoffs. This is one of the funnest times of the year for me. It's like March Madness, you never know who's going to pull off the big upset. I am on the sidelines this year and I'll admit that I really miss strategizing and preparing for the playoffs. I envy you guys. Enjoy it while you can!
