FBD, I like your player list, but I think it is just a little overdone. Soriano, Schmidt, or a lesser version of Schmidt Jeff Supan would be a good start. Rowan won't be leaving Philly, IMO, and McCarthy won't be dealt to the Cubs by KW. Also, the Cubs don't have any players that other teams covet to make a trade. Oh sure, everyone would want Eyre or Howry, but they're not going anywhere.

Lou Pinella an "interim" manager, I don't think so. The Cubs have holes in their lineup, lots of holes, but Pinella will get more out of his players than they even know. If you're talking about the over-under on which manager stays in Chicago longer, I'll take Lou and the over.

It's difficult to get too excited about anything yet. Resigning Ramirez (who dogged it before late season numbers/contract push) and 2 pitchers (Wood & Miller) who gave you nothing last year means little.
Forget Rowand. He has an afffinity for crashing his face into walls and there's lots of brick around Wrigley. Average player who can't stay healthy.
If some of the other names mentioned materialize it could get interesting. I'm more focused on seeing if Trib sells team and brings in entirely new management structure. That is only hope for getting this organization turned around long term.
I'm hoping for a sale from the baseball standpoint. Trib has had 20 some years to try and build a winner on the field.
Also believe the Trib needs to sell the team from a business standpoint - now. All their assets divied up and sold are worth much more than current stock price would indicate. The Cubs value is not so much in positive cash flow generated or contribution to earnings. The value would come in selling. Trib shareholders are furious and looking for a return on their shares.
Empty seats at end of season and declining ratings may only get worse if team continues slide and Sox stay strong.
Even if they're idiots personally I'd love to see a Trump or Mark Cuban come in and buy the Cubs and put winning as number one priority.
You can add Mark DeRosa to the list of new Cubs. 3 years, $13Million. Played 6 positions with Texas last year, fielded a total of 412 chances and committed only 5 errors. Hit .296 with 13HR and 74 RBI. Also nice OBP .357. Slated to be the starting 2nd baseman. Very nice addition to the team at a healthy salary.
With this new addtion, The Cubs Lineup is looking good in comparison the white sox(pale hose)

And they have just gotten started.....Wrigley will be the place to be this summer to watch winning baseball.

Early line on wins: Cubs (without any more additions) 97 pale hose 89. That's a very reasonable number for the pale hose...they could win 90.

It's an entire comedy routine at wrigley!

The smelly bowels of the old beast are enough to make any hungry fan think twice about eating.

The seats are comfortable.....if your less than 140 pounds.

The players mope around (tired from the night before)....and lose more often than not.

Parking stinks...and costs a laughable sum.

If you walk south a few blocks, weirdo's outnumber normal humans 4-1.

The Trib should sign a TV contract with the comedy channel.
How about that? A Cubs-Sox trade. David Aardsma for Neil Cotts. I hope it works out for both teams. I like both pitchers. You can't help but love Aardsma's power arm and youth. It is a good thing that they can find common ground and make a trade.

Soxnole and Beethere, remember that whatever good KW spins about Aardsma was done against the weak NL. LOL

Well, with the signing of Soriano the Cubs are stepping up, aren't they? Look for more to come down msotly with the pitching staff.

There will be those who say they spent too much, but by today's standards it isn't, especially since it isn't my money.

The Cubs now have at least three of the best players in Chicago. D. Lee, Zambrano and Soriano are all better than anyone on the sox.
I know that the Cubs need pitching, pitching and more pitching. But, I'd much rather spend these big dollars on Soriano than on an over-the-hill Barry Zito and others. There aren't, IMO, any top of the rotation pitchers available in free agency, but there are a couple that are going to be paid like they are. By adding a tremendous offensive player, getting a fine defensive player in DeRosa the team is already greatly improved. It looks like there is a plan, and that plan started with hiring Lou Pinella and it's continuing with the Cubs being very agressive and proactive in the marketplace.
Sox, How about giving it a rest and just say that the Cubs made a terrific acquisition. I just heard an interview with Frank Robinson and he said that Soriano is "the real deal" and to watch him on a daily basis showed what a great player he is. 22 outfield assists in his first season playing in the outfield, are you kidding me? You sound like the 2 goofs on the Score this morning, who only want to talk about how much money the Cubs spent for his services. Do you think that the fans in NY or Boston care more about the player that their team gets, or how much it took to get him? Get real. This guy put up numbers that even Willie Mays didn't achieve in any one year. If the Sox had gotten Soriano, what would you be writing now?
Fact is that Soriano is one of the top players in the game today---forget his defense lapses because his bat more than makes up for them

lineshot has it right--Soriano can flat out play

sox---with "Sweet Lou" in control you won't see Soriano pout-- you can take that to the bank

I am a Mets fan and I would have loved to see him in left field or even at second playing for them
