OK---back to the original topic of this thread...successes (read: "brag about") of our kids.

Mike recently landed a lead role in a one-act play titled "Judgment Call" at his university that will run the last weekend of this month. Ironically, he plays a major league umpire (one of three) in comedic discussion and debate over their impact on The Game. He looks forward to thumbing his former coach out of the theater.... Well Ladies, I live in Montoursville, Pa and my son is 15, (daughter is 19 and a college freshman at Kutztown U) I have been a bballl mom since Michael was 5. We have loved every minute of it, (despite living in our van all summer). I found this site after searching for some camps and have been addicted since. My reason was to find out if we needed to spend some big bucks to have a Scouting service or if this is something we can do on our own? This all came about when a gentlemen came to our school to speak. Buy the book, we can get you out there, sign up! We have freinds and family that went with this service for there o5's and 07's. They said its the way to go, is it? I want to make sure we do the right thing and that Michael has oppurtunitys. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. greenjump
Isockmom---

NO! Your son is young and he has LOTS of time to do the right things and get the exposure necessary to make it to the next level---sounds as if you are already doing some of them. Follow the recruiting timeline on this site, and take advantage of the incredible advice of many who have been there and offer info on this website. You have found the site that can help you the most. Read all of the articles, ask questions (NO such thing as a dumb one!). Don't be tempted to fork over the big bucks for a "scouting service" when you can do it yourself with the advice here. Again---you've got lots of time!

Is this heaven?...
Thanks PAMom! I was very skeptical about the whole process, but my brother fell for it hook line and sinker. Got the profile of my 9th grade nephew up and they are excited they got emails from schools already!!!!! I hope they get there $1200.00 worth! But that got me thinking about Michael. I will take all the advice I can get and run with it!.. Oh but the way this is HEAVEN!!!!!! Thnaks biglaugh
lsockmom,
I found this site alittle late for my oldest son(a high school sr.) but what I have learned here just since dec. has helped me so much. I have another son who is a freshmen. I too thought about a scouting service for my oldest but decide I just couldn't see spending that kind of money. So I just researched and found good quality showcases to bring him to. It payed off for us he is now an early signee to ULL. All I"m saying is you don't have to hire a scouting service you can do it on your own.
lsockmom ...

First off ... welcome aboard ...

Always good to have another LADY in the lounge and on the site.

I echo the advice you have received from my other friends here ... learn as much as you can from this site, which is by far one of the most helpful that I have seen ... and wish the Scouting Service a hardy farewell and Godspeed. There is too much free info and advice around to spend money on a service (IMHO). We did not utilize this site or any service during our son's high school years, but had I known that it was around, I would have been one of the first on the bandwagon.

Good luck to you and your son. Enjoy the ride ... altho it is often a roller coaster, it is fun.

Glad my instincts took hold. I am going to start gathering info on showcases and maybe good summer camps. We have started 6ams for the last 3 weeks 2 times a week so I am looking forward to the season. Its amazing how after a long summer of ball and being car-lagged, when its done you can't wait till it starts again. I love watching Michael play ball! He just has such a love and passion for the game. Tootles1 14
lsockmom...welcome to our home away from home...

ask away..share your stories...give us what you learn along the way...read all the articles and adhere to the timeline...

tell your son to keep his grades up, play hard and to keep a great attitude...

get him playing on a competitive team during summer, which may be right at home or you may need to travel a bit...all regions are different.

and I too agree that there are better ways to spend your pennies..than on the scouting service...

get him seen...for us we had to leave our rural town..but for you that might not what you need to do...if you have competitive arena locally.

Living in Central Pa we will have to look else where for a competitive team. Last year we got lucky by chance, Michael was practicing with the Keystone team in State College (which is about an hour west of our hometown) they were scrimmaging a AAu team. When we got home there was a email from the coach of the AAu team asking if Michael would like to play some tourneys. He was loosing kids to Football and liked what Michael had. We went to watch a tourney and Michael liked what he saw. He played with them including the ECTB World Series in CT. Now a new year and not sure what to do? Do we find another team since Michael was a fill in for that one or go a different route. He will be playing Senior league Ball and he is going to try out for the Keystone team again. I guess we have to look at all our options. Its tough living in a small town. But we travel well.
