lsockmom - Just to echo what others have said. I found this site to be invaluable as we went through the recruiting process and look for continued guidance and wisdom as we begin the final high school season and look forward to college. No need to go the scouting service route as you can do it all yourself with a bit of work (and help from the folks here) IMHO. I have a friend out east who went that route, too and from what I can tell, all he has done is get a nice video (that you could do yourself) and say good-bye to a large chunk of money... Good luck - nice to have you in the LL (Ladies Lounge). Bragging about our kids is encouraged here, by the way, and we are ALWAYS ready listen. If we get a bit racy at times, well,,,, just because we are baseball moms, it doesn't mean we are dead (or blind)! Cool

In a few post I have recieved so much wonderful info! Thanks! It refreshing after this cold and snowy winter to be part of baseball all year around. Michael has been working all winter and is ready to get started. The kid even was out in a snow storm hitting away.!! What a site! laugh I hope with all your input and the information I read and recieve from every one will put us on the right track and help us make the right choices. As for bragging about our kids, Its difficult to hold back without sounding like your tooting your own horn to friends and family. I am so proud of both my kids and their accomplishments why not! clap Look forward to talking to you all soon.
Ladies, I have a question for you!
I recently emailed a couple of questions to TRhit about next step with son. He emailed information ona program, college select. I am a little confused about this program it seems like it is a type of recruiting service! Please let me know what you think, Any info is greatly appreciated. noidea
Isockmom---

College Select is TRhit's (Tom Rizzi's) showcase program. Tom is one of the senior "websters" here, known for assisting young men particularly from the northern regions with college recruitment. I did not find Tom soon enough in our recruiting "ride." I have heard nothing but good things about Tom's showcases and his efforts on behalf of potential recruits. Also---the other major showcases (where you get lots of bang for your buck) to keep in mind down the road (you said your son is only 15---he has awhile yet): Perfect Game ("PGStaff" on this site is another webster you should email for info), Team One, Area Code, and possibly Midwest Prospects (Brian Rupe posts here, too). There you go! Big Grin

Is this heaven?...

And remember, too, that if there are any questions of a personal nature that you might not want to "broadcast" on a national forum, you can always send one of your new friends a "private topic" message. You can do it a couple of different ways, but I think the easiest is to double click the person's "name" and then click on the "invite to a private tropic". You can also have multiple participants chat as well, so it wouldn't hurt to add some people to your "contacts list" in your "my space" section.

It is a lot of fun, and you will find that you can chat confidentially with one of us wise (and some of us wise OLD) mavens ... about almost anything.

Have fun ...

Learn new things everyday, Thanks! Well the time has come for me to "Toot".
Thanks to Harry Carey and a 4 year old my bball journey began! Michael started tball at 5, memories of picking grass and throwing it in the air while playing 3rd base laugh Since then Michael has excelled in the sport! PLaying every year on regular season and being chosen for all stars too we have devoted our summers to bball. In 2000 our all star team got to play the district championship game at Lamade Stadium (the first time Little league ever let local teams use and play on the field). We got to the States that year, also first time in 40 some odd years a team from Loyalsock made it that far, The township rallied with them. A couple of coaches at the tourney told our coache Michaels was the best 3rd basement they have seen in the State Tourney, But Michael says he just plays the game. Last year Michael played with the varsity team as a sophmore and played jv too. He played regular season LL ALL Stars , He was chosen 2nd pick to represent the Nittany region at the Keystone Games, what a great experience! While scrimmaging a AAu team the coach asked if he would like to play some tourney ball with their team, of course Michael said yes, We went with this team to the ECTB World series in CT last year, Team came in 3rd place. Michael seems to have a god given talent in bball, such a love and passion for the game and it reflects in his game. He also played football this year and was Captain of JV and played varsity, Got a Letter this year for Football, not bad for a kid only playing his 2nd year. Micahael is a great student, taking honors and advanced classes. He would like to pursue playing bball in college, but he also knows that academics is the key! Well enough tooting for me! biglaugh
Well first official college game is now in the books for my son. He was the starting catcher and they won against Vol State 10-8. He was 1 for 5.... Second game he DH and was 1 for 3, we lost 5-1.

The team looked pretty good considering yesterday was their first time on a field since the fall. They just have to get back in the swing of things.

All in all a good day for baseball and baseball fans!!! 14
This is probably going to sound like a yawner for most of you who are celebrating accomplishments on the college level, but here goes: My son made varsity as a soph. Yea! I'm so proud of him as he started out last year as the third-string JV catcher. He was the only kid on the team whose voice hadn't changed yet. Since then he has been working non-stop, played summer ball and on three fall-ball teams, got a few lessons and basically worked his duff off. Also he grew 5 inches Smile Had a few bumps along the way--one tryout for a local elite travel team was the most horrendous performance he's ever given (sick, sore-armed, nervous and his girlfriend dumped him the night before) but he picked himself up and made the squad for another team. Now all his hard work has paid off, and he's learned that determination, persistence, and the occasional lecture from mom can be good things. I'm so proud of him. Now I can breathe again. Smile

Well....I am quite proud of MYSELF as I survived my son's FIRST college baseball game via constant phone contact between my husband (who was at the game) and me (who had to stay home due to my two other kids' and their commitments!). My husband drove down to VA this morning fully anticipating watching two weekend games with my son sitting the bench, hopefully maybe getting a pinch hitting appearance or two. Guess what, the coach posted the starting lineup on the dug out....there was my son in right field (which he hasn't played since age 11! lol). Wish I could tell you all that he had a stellar breakout freshman performance. I'm just glad he didn't have any errors, strike out in all his plate appearances, or have something embarrassing happen like his pants falling down while in right field! lol. I can't even IMAGINE how nervous HE was considering "I" felt like I couldn't wander more than 5 feet from the bathroom the entire afternoon! lol. But, I'm so proud that he cracked the line up in his first game as a freshman, and got this one under his belt. On to bigger and better things. By the way....I'm out the door to buy some hair dye to hide all the additional grey that sprouted this afternoon! pull_hair
