While a bittersweet time, congratulations to your son on all he has accomplished. Sounds like his "glass" is half full, not half empty.
Thanks. He's been fortunate. All in all, we are blessed beyond belief.
Providing he makes the team, looks like he's putting his cleats back on. Jury's still out on how it will pan out.

great news ,i wish josh the best. but i have a feeling he's got a point to make, he won't need any luck.
Sounds good. Hope the extra time off let the shoulder heal and he gets the old stuff back.
Great news! All the best luck coming from Florida from us. Keep us posted.
I am glad you let the cat out of the bag.
Best of luck to Josh.
Don't mean to hijack this thread, but a big congrats to Dad04 on his son's (Buddy Glass) graduation in a few weeks, that is a huge accomplishment and proud moment for mom and dad.

Will be pulling for Josh, I wish I knew him better because there's obviously something very special about him. Beyond the things we already knew about.
TPM I'm glad you brought up Buddy. Buddy Glass is a kid I've always liked a lot. Been following him for a long time. He had a great sophomore year and a great career. None of which was any surprise. We knew he could pitch successfully at a very high level. Congrats Dad04... You done good!

Frank,
That's great news, and I love the photo of Josh on the Crushers website. Love the team name, too! Keep us updated!
Big congrats to Dad04 and Buddy, that is a great accomplishment. We don't have one of those in our family yet (son with a degree) so I can definitely appreciate the significance!

Thanks. My son and wife deserve any credit.
Congrats to Josh and good luck going forward. He might feel he has unfinished business that I am sure will carry him through.

Thanks all. I hesitated to post it because as we all know "stuff happens". Hopefully he will make the team and do well.
Dad04, major congrats to Buddy (and the wife ). Those degrees don't just fall off trees.

Frank - I just saw this post. This team is new and on the west side of Cleveland so it is not too far from me (about 45 minutes from my east side home). I'll make it a point to make it out and see him play. Hopefully, I can get his autograph Perhaps you can send me a pm to let me know when you think Josh might pitch.
I noticed a kid named Arden McWilliams on the team and he is one who has crossed-paths against my son - both in high school and in summer play.

Not for baseball players they don't, as I am sure most here know only too well. Thanks.
Will his adventure never end? CNN has contacted the team for a possible story.
Assisted Living
Lake Erie Story
Believe it or not, he loves it there. Got his own kitchenette, washer and dryer, bathroom, internet and they bought him a flat screen LG tv.
He's always been great with kids and elders. I see it as another opportunity for him to bring joy to someone's life while enriching his own.
Continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
Now if he can only pitch!

What an adventure! All the best for a fun and successful season for Josh!
Frank,
I have tears in my eyes, thinking of what a highlight it must be for the elderly residents to have their own resident baseball player. Josh and his wife are sure to put smiles on many elderly faces, simply by being there. How wonderful!

My dad lived in a facility like this - I am sure Josh and his wife will bring much much joy to the residents! Hope they take them out to the ballpark sometimes -
What a marvelous opportunity for Josh and his wife. To me, it just makes sense all around. I'm sure it will bring some exciting variety to the other residents. I imagine there will be some great stories about the game from decades ago.
I almost hope a better offer doesn't come around for Josh that would cause him to leave.

"Eighty-four-year-old Meda Dennis, who has been living in the center for four years, said Faiola's arrival is the most exciting thing to happen since a good Elvis impersonator showed up."
Don't you just love it! I'd like to see a picture of the residents at the game with their visors and necklaces they made at craft circle.
Congrats to Josh!

Mike and Mike on ESPN did a bit on Josh this morning
This is such a great stroy --- and sounds as if the right guy was picked for the gig!
Have a great season, Josh, and spread the joy!

It's kind of neat that Josh's dad is a member here. Not suprising though. Agree with Orlando... They picked the right guy!
.
How cool! Is this a "late inning save" in more than one respect?
I am sure that we will see pictures of an outing to the ballpark! All the best!

I just read the last 2 days' posts on this thread. What a marvelous story!
My elderly father is currently in a nursing/rehab center after a week-long hospital stay and, let me tell 'ya, lots of old folks homes could use a resident like Josh!
I just love the pennant saying "Don't get cut - move your butt!" Too cute!

You'd think a Dartmouth grad might figure out a way to profit from all of this publicity.
Hey, the way I look at it, it's FREE press. CNN and ESPN, way to go!
The object is to stand out at this point in his career. Some scout is going to be watching and say, "hey that's the guy who lives at the assisted living place" and take notice. I'll bet everyone knows who he is, and that's a good thing, IMO.

quote:The old people write him motivational cards, tell him he better not get cut. Faiola is smart enough to know that things could be worse. Hey, he could still be with the Orioles.
That's true. He's not getting cut. His neighbors would be protesting out front of the ball park. Plus...he can play.
Please excuse the continued posts, but this was an interesting link.

Unless it's a joke, supposedly he's been contacted by the former producer of "Welcome Back Cotter" about a movie.
All he wanted was to finish out the season playing the game he loves...
Might have to move this to the Unusual Unusual forum.
