Hats off to St. Rita for advancing to Baseball Heaven. Hard to say what happened after several inspiring and outstanding performances by Young through the last few weeks. It has been lots of fun, but tonight it was definitely sloppy play that did the Dolphins in and led to a most disappointing 4-2 loss.
The Dolphins took the lead at the top of the fourth inning, but the Mustangs responded to get the runs back "plus one" to take a one run lead at the bottom of the frame. Angelo Burrage got the fourth inning Mustang Rally going in a big way with a lead off Double. This was followed by another Double, which was off of the bat of Zych and sent Burrage into hyper gear and had him sliding hard into the plate. He was the first Mustang to get a run on the board. Burrage's aggresive style of play is his trademark and was what jolted the ball from the catchers glove on the slide. Burrage was safe and the Dolphins were reeling. I have seen it before and if you watch him play you will probably see it again. The Mustang Rally was underway.
A subsequent series of infield errors in the fourth inning were costly and resulted in another 2 runs scoring and then led to a pitching change, despite that Coleman had done a great job, allowing 2 Runs on 3 Hits. Max Freidman followed on the mound after pitching 7 innings just 48 hours earlier in the big Mount Carmel win. He has been the anchor and primary reason for the Dolphins month of May success. Freidman coming in to pitch, ended the fourth inning. Fortunately, Max had enough left in the tank to go the rest of the way. He gave a pitching clinic and demonstrated one last time for the Dolphin faithful just how effective he is.
I heard it said more than once as I left the stadium tonight that Friedman was "totally impressive!" The kid also got the last Dolphin hit of the game......I kid you not when I say, this kid can play!
Now back to the game,..... in the sixth inning a hard hit ball by Zych to right center field was scored as an E-9 error, and had him standing at third. Zych eventually scored which was the fourth run of the game. No matter, with Zych throwing heat, the Young batters did not have a chance and the game ended with St. Rita scoring 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 errors. Ouch!
The winning pitcher for Rita was # 00. There were no programs passed out and I did not get his name, but he was very effective for the first 5.1 innings and allowed 2 Runs on just 2 Hits. As mentioned, the closer Zych came in to finish the job and it was lights out on the Dolphins magical mystery season.
The season took a dramatic upwards turn with the City Championship win at Wrigley which was then followed by some big wins in the IHSA state playoff run with Young advancing to the Regional Championship and then defeating host Mount Carmel in a big win for the Sectional Championship. All of these milestones were "firsts" in the schools 27 year history.
To say the least it has been a great year for Whitney Young. A number of seniors played their last game wearing a Dolphin uniform. What a way to go out, playing their final game for the Super-Sectional Championship. But wouldn't it have been nice if.......
Well a Big Thank you and Congratulations to Coach Cassidy and all to all of the coaches for what you have done this year. Although the season for the seniors now comes to a close, it is back to baseball with next years varsity squad as the 2007-08 campaign begins anew with IHSA Summer League play that begins next week. Young opens the Summer League season on June 11 in a game at home against Lane.
Sadly, this Magical Mystery Tour must now come to an end......Until my next post..........Hello, Goodbye!
To the newbie from Naperville regarding the 13-U Clubber team from two years ago. You gotta love these one time posters who then Bunt and Run!
I am deeply sorry if one of our Clubber coaches abused an umpire and you and your boy were so offended. The guy who was coaching actually is a good guy and he is also an umpire too. I believe he subsequently apologized to the players of our team, the parents and also to the umpire himself. This team was one I had limited involvement in as my son was not on this team.
Baseball can be a tough game that can be difficult at times. On behalf of Clubbers-Chicago I want to at this time extend my most sincere apology to you and your boy. I know that the game of baseball can drive even the sane to the point of half insanity and incidents of "umpire abuse" should not be tolerated!
I hope that neither you or your young charge are still dealing with the after effects of umpire abuse. This can have life long after effects. In fact I just saw that Lou Pinella recently had an episode and I saw how violently it seemed to overtake him. This may have been due to something that had been repressed since he was a young child. I believe that now he will have to suffer the consequences and this means that he will have to not only apologize, but will also have to open his wallet too!
I certainly hope that this never happens to you again while you are at a baseball game. I do realize that the style of baseball played in the fine suburb of Naperville is a bit more reserved in tone and tenor than how the game is sometimes played in urban Chicago.
Once again please accept my apologies for this most unfortunate 2005 event in you and your son's life.
Is the young lad now playing in the IHSA playoffs? Do tell us his name and school so that we can properly cheer him on. You can always count on me to promote the underdog. If the boi is still suffering from a case of witnessing "umpire abuse" I can refer you both to an excellent psycho therapist.

Jeez pretty late to be making posts. The sad thing is that I am checking this website in the middle of the night. Congrats to WY on a strong finish I don't think anyone on this site has anything against the team, just the way you state things on this site. We lost to Bowden and Waubonsee Valley in the supersectional my senior year in a close game... its frustrating knowing you are so close to going downstate.
Our game did not start until 8:30 and then got home after midnight. I promised a post win or lose. So here I am!
One game away is tough, but we did not deserve to advance the way the team showed tonight. But this has been a great experience for all and was the icing on the cake.
We will now all need to work extra hard to get back to this point again next year and then maybe have the good fortune to advance to the next step.

We? Are you a coach? We?
Oh, come on.
WE--as in "our team".
Don't you ever refer to the team for which you are rooting in the possessive?
The tv and radio professional sports announcers do it all the time--"And now the starting line up for YOUR Chicago" Bulls, Bears, Cubs, White Sox, etc. The Bulls are no more MY team than the Harlem Globetrotters. The Cubs aren't my team, the Bears aren't my team, the Sox aren't my team...etc. I have no ownership in them. But they are MY TEAM by virtue of the teams being based in the major city closest to where I live.
I applaud the Whitney Young High School baseball team. Congratulations on a great season. Good luck in the future. And good luck to all the teams who are playing this weekend in Joliet. At this point, they are all talented and luck could be the deciding factor.
By the way, the high school where my sons played baseball were nowhere near the final 8. How exciting for any team to play as long as they did.

This has been so much fun, why not just one more post......
The Dream Is Over!...however, throughout the month of May the young Dolphins put on quite a show.
The final analysis reveals that the young Dolphins were performing feats well above their heads and it was taking observers absolutely out of their minds! Baseball does strange things and somehow it can be almost like a drug. For some it might be even better than ***! The team was performing a high wire tight rope act, but they needed Max Friedman to carry the day. He gets my season MVP. Last night proved to me that he could carry the load.
I can tell you that is is not easy getting into Baseball Heaven.
Christ, you know it ain't easy, so now don't you crucify me! ...... and until you are there you can't know how hard it can be!
Yes it is true, we slipped into Baseball Purgatory. So many teams do, but at least we had fun along the way!
To all the players you made my day, my month and maybe even my year! Congrats and hats off to all. This season has been just loads of fun!

Mark, I highly doubt that the Burrage's would have anything postive to say to you. Nice try though. Congratulations to St. Rita on defeating Whitney Young. Just think how much more Ormond would talk about and promote Whitney Young on this site if his son ever gets a chance to acually play on their varsity team. Keep promoting the school and racking up the brownie points. It seems Whitney Young had a fine season and all the players on the team should be congratulated. I do find it funny how Ormond can talk about other teams on this site and say, "that team didn't show me much" What a positive way to talk about your opponent and who is Ormond to evaluate another team. What does he know? In regards to baseball and how to treat people the answer is not much.
Bunt and Run....who are you? I absolutely love this game you play! I continue to be fascinated with your obsession with me! It is really quite flattering!
Anyway Bunt and Run, "Tell Me Please.......Why Do You Cry" why are you venting such anger and pain, and there is also such jealousy too! Primal scream therapy might do you some good.
The more you let it RAIN on your life the more anger you carry within. Think about it Bunt and Run. Think positive thoughts and do not let the RAIN continue to ruin your life, because soon you are going to be dead!
Life is really too short to be carrying around such RAIN so I suggest you look at your life going backwards and then going forward. Get rid of the RAIN in your life and celebrate abundance instead!
I realize these are not overtly psychedelic lyrics, but maybe if you study them you will find that as Lennon suggests that even for you that "when it rains and shines" that it is all, "just a state of mind."
Bunt and Run...Were you born with these feelings of inner pain? Think about it........studies have shown that these feeling can actually lead to "umpire abuse."
RAIN
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.
They might as well be dead.
When the sun shines they slip into the shade
And drink their lemonade.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
I can show you that when it starts to rain,
(When the sun shines down.)
Everything's the same.
(When the sun shines down.)
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines,
(When the sun shines down.)
It's just a state of mind?

Can you hear me, can you hear me?
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.

I think that the rest of us have dropped into a Tony Soprano--Dr. Jennifer Melfi discussion!
Ormond, I have only responded to all your silly posts twice. I have enjoyed reading everyone else rip you apart though. I really could care less about you or your Whitney Young brown nosing. I just find it funny how you cut down another team and say, they didn't show you much. Who are you to comment on anything? Keep up your brown nosing at Whitney Young, maybe it will get your son a mop up inning or two next year on the team. Whitney Young is a fine school and they don't need you representing them in a controversial light. Take care and try to find some inter piece. Most people see right through your trouble making ways.
So Bunt and Run......lets use words that we can all understand.
Tell Me Please, ......Who did I offend?
Did Whitney Young take you by surprise?.... Just give me some truth.
I can hear so much anger and pain. Just gimme some truth. Please forgive me if I have caused you any pain.
I'm sick and tired of hearing things....
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just Gimme Some Truth - John Lennon

Mark, you offend everyone that you come in contact with. Your quote, "Mount Carmel didn't show you anything." Well I'm sure the Mount Carmel coaching staff is having sleepless nights knowing they didn't show you anything. Give me a break! That's just one of many ignorant comments that you've made. "You want the "Truth" You can't handle the truth. You weep for Santiago because he has no code and has no honor. The truth is you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall." (Nicholson, A Few Good Men)
Ormond and buntandrun99,
It is time to take this to the PM option on the site. This is doing no one any benefit, certainly not the other readers and posters who may try and squeeze some of their own thoughts and ideas in between this long-winded dialogue.
Thank you.

Congratulations to the Whitney Young baseball team for having a very successful season, but now The Young Magical Mystery Tour of 2007 is over. Let's move on to the rest of the playoffs.
Which team is going to take it all? Edwardsville perhaps?

M.O. it is obvious you are carrying latent inferiority complex on behalf of CPL baseball (sports). Yes we noticed that WY is a good team, that has accomplished a lot. It's just that your "long winded" reminders -- get annoying.
OK WY is a good team. They did well. Hopefully they will do well next year.
Remember, succinctness is a virtue !

Do the kids on the WY team know who the Beatles are?
Mark, you mentioned Max Friedman doing much of the pitching. Can you give us a run down of how many innings over the last month?

And also a difficult word to spell!
OK...so we have identified that the anger comes from that Mount Carmel Win....that was a good win for us and Freidman pitched. I suggest you get over it.
We all have opinions. You have yours and I have mine. I believe I am entitled to express them.
This could be going on until next year when we next meet again!

Mark if that was directed at me I am not sure why. I don't have a player on either team, just asking about the pitching numbers is all.

Please answer my question
Hey is it just me or did someone accuse the Catholic League of recruiting. OH,I bet those folks at Loyola Academy got feelin a little guilty and asked that the Jordan kid leave an go to WY. For the academics ya know, not the b-ball team.
Somebody please tell the class the link to the High School Basketball Website....get the hint?
Bunt and Run. What so motivates you to make the insulting attacks and tirade on me?
Why the obsession with me? As I mentioned, I am flattered, but it all seems kind of strange and as if you wanting to make a personal attack. I hope you are not almost ready to go postal on us all here.
There must be something beyond the Mount Carmel game that has gotten you so upset? Clearly you did not play in the game. Are you an alum? What year and class. I know a number of Mount Carmel alums and they are not taking any of this so personally. Sure they wanted to win, but we did too! That is just baseball!
Why are you being so neurotic, psychotic and yellow-bellied. What's up?
It seems rather schizophrenic that you are hiding behind an identity and then running out and attacking me?

Why do you "jump when your Momma tells you anything",.............

"all i want is some truth"
Here you go...
Please lay off this stuff, let these threads go very far away.
The saddest fact of whatever it is that you are doing here, is that the actual young men on the team are embarrassed by what you are writing. They have been from the moment you started focusing your obsession on the Varsity squad.
Yeah, I know quite a few kids on that team and as the word started leaking around about what you were doing here...these guys expressed the feeling that they wished you would shut up.
You have single handedly created a funky association, for many people, with Young. I've popped in these threads and tried to be diplomatic about things but I'm extremely pi**ed off at this point because you do this with asolutely ZERO consideration as to how this varsity Whitney Young team would like to carry itself. They don't like it and you are reckless, selfish and inconsiderate with your bs. Being a megalomaniac doesn't help things here either.
It's shameful and sickening to watch. It's also clear that this is about you and your need to bait people in order to perpetuate this type of chaos that you seem to thrive on.
(i wish being succinct was one of my strong points)

Suffering succotash! That was succinct enough for me.
LOL
I believe the Moderators would just as soon that this highly popular thread die. So I suggest we Live and Let Die and move on.
Happy to continue the Whitney Young dialogue and certainly will once the Summer League play begins. Young had a great season. We are no longer in the IHSA playoff mix. Good luck to all remaining.
So let's now just watch and see who gets the crown.

You're quite right Mark. The moderators seem to want every thread you become of part to die. Maybe it's time for you to move on. Based on your behavior I think you may have spent too much time with Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds in your youth.
You are all right. Time for another in a series to end. The shame of this all is that a trend is developing here that I'm not sure sets a good example for some of the younger posters to see.
