At U13 (but a small field), one of my son's former teammates was pitching and took line drive in the crotch. The kid picked up the ball, threw it to first, and then lost consciousness. They had to bring a helicopter for him. Luckily he was fine...

Tonight I saw an umpire take a line drive off the back and shake it off like it was nothing. Really hard hit ball, too...

This is a film clip that will be replayed for a long time.
Corey is becoming famous. The announcer on the webcast last night said it's one of the most watched online videos. I'll bet he'd trade a little fame for getting back on the mound. But when it's his draft time the scouts don't have to ask about his toughness and competitiveness.
Corey had MUCH rather be going back on the mound this weekend than have any amount of popularity on the WEB. I guess this maight be considered a “little” silver lining to the cloud that just fell over him. He was interviewed on ESPN yesterday. I hope these type of distractions help keep his attitude in the right place so he can finish this semester of school. It is going to be toughest on him to watch the bus pull out for the next road trip if he is left behind.

That's gotta be one of the best play's I've ever seen.
When my son asked if I saw Mark Buehrle's play my response was, "Big deal! Watch this one!" He was awed Corey had the presence of mind to find the ball. It should be in this week's web gems.

AL MA 08,
All my best for your son to get the very best medical treatment, to have his doctors be on their A game when they treat him, and for a full recovery.
From parents perspective, you are very astute. You are right to pay close attention to the mental side. These are highly competitive kids. Hopefully his recovery will go smoothly and that will be a huge help for him mentally.
He may need some pick me ups here and there from our experience.
You are so right to already be alert and watching.
I was watching the game when he got hit. I had no idea he was your son. I felf so bad for him and I know he was in tremendous pain. I can not imagine how scared you guys were for him. I am very glad he is going to be Ok. He is a very talented young man and I will be praying for his full recovery from the injury.
