I'm somewhat baffled by how GCA works. Nothing against Levelle(spelling?) because I'm well aware he's a great coach, however these kids transfer and/or gain another year of eligiblity and seem to not go anywhere. Good luck to Gary and his well deserving scholarship to be a Vol but other than he and BJ and if im not mistaken Jacob Dempsey, GCA has been an excuse to play one more year of high school baseball. It says something about those in the Beach and the Southeastern who are standouts without a 5th year to mature and gain more knowledge about the game. And in the long run, It seems that those choosing not to gain this advantage have done better in the future. And one last thing, how come it seems that GCA will never play a powerhouse team such as Great Bridge or PA or any solid public school team in an out of district game? Also, are they really so worried about winning a state ttle that they still have to compete in the weak(er) Div II, but then again I forgot that they lost to the Div I state champs 11-0 in 5 this year.
I answered your question about Kaufman. Then you state you're baffled about how GCA works. Seems to me like you know a lot about GCA and you don't like their program. Or that it is weak or poor. Concerning your comment about why GCA "will never play" public school powerhouses... I believe you're miss informed. Also, the Div I state champs (NDA) actually recruit kids and use the 5th year rule for many kids on their roster. I'm just stating facts.
There has been an NCAA rule on record that states that HS is 8 semesters plus one class. NCAA has decided to start enforcing it this coming school year. The rule says something to the affect that any HS student taking more than the 8 semester + 1 class will lose one year of eligibility in Div I (I beleive) intercollegiate athletics. This applies to all sports not just baseball and affects thousands of HS atheletes that have 5th year'd for whatever reason.
Pirate it seems to me that GCA feels as if they cant win a state title in Div I so they're going to stay in Div II? Tell your Gator friends to please play some noteworthy competition this coming year with however many 5th year seniors you all have and recruit some more players who cant make the cut at the Hickory's and Great Bridge's. And when the Gators go 29-6 or so and they win a Div II title I hope they feel good about themselves running away from GOOD competition.
GCA doesn't recruit anyone. Who couldn't make the cut at Hickory and GB? GCA's not running away from competition. Public schools have a problem with scheduling... only 20 regular season games. So I think that's more of a reason than anything else they don't play area public schools. On that note only half of the Beach or SE district teams are competative anyway. The TCIS isn't very strong... save Cape Henry & NSA. That's why GCA travels and invites other teams from the VA - MD area to play.
Its clearly evident that public school high school players and coaches see GCA listed every year in the baseball preview at around 6 or so and they say to themselves we never get a shot to take them on, and I would have to agree, at least Frankenberry realizes it in the sports section when the teams in the beach are beating up on eachother and losing games and still ahead of GCA in the local stnadings for HR. No other team around gets the luxury of a 5th year senior or 2 comng in every year and still they manage to play better and be more succesful.
Not to rain on y'alls parade, but this thread was started to discuss rising seniors in Va baseball. I have enjoyed your discussion, but since it appears to be going on and on (think energizer bunny) y'all may want to take the eligibility discussion stuff to the thread started by P&CMom (see the VA Mainboard: Eligability? All State Team - private schools by P&CMom).

Please think about moving this discussion there (and you could easily delete your posts here and put them there). I would like to see this thread remain about the kids and help promote these kids by keeping a list that can easily be used by those looking to recruit and sign Va players for next year.

Please don't get me wrong, and I really don't mean any harm. Thanks for your help on this.
VAbaseball you have no idea what you are talking about when you said GCA baseball players don't go anywhere besides Bulman and Dempsey. Joey Agreste has been drafted the past two out of three years and has a full ride to WVU next year. Trey Barham was the number one or two pitcher for VMI this year. Patrick Nichols is playing pro ball in the Nationals organization. Chase Townsend is an all-conference player at Mary Washington. Dexter Carter is pitching at ODU. I could go on and on with the list but i will stop there. And you think its GCA saying they won't play public schools? I believe that the public schools won't play them because they are aloud a limited amount of games. Most of GCA's state championships have come in division one anyways. Nice try though
Now Id have to ask what current GCA player are you DropBombs. I have a lot of repsect for Lavelle and the program he runs. And I will apologize for condensing my list to just Gary and Jacob. However, what I was trying to say was that kids like Von(as an example)in my opinion, wont be contributors at the next level and effectively take positions away from kids who have been at GCA for a number of years. Does an extra year of physical and mental maturation mean that much?Send him to a JUCO then, if your going to use grades as an excuse! Or do kids not start at the public chesapeake schools so they need to come to GCA? One last question, so Im assuming that since they got their Div II title they'll be moving to Div I this year?
Area Code games add some Virginia boys to their Southeast team (Diamondbacks) Roster. Congratulations to these guys and best of luck in California.

12 / 351 Jake Lowery - Midlothian
13 / 366 Jamie Blackwell - Forest Park

15 / 377 Ryan Crosby - NDA
I also checked with a contact of mine who, without "outing" him, is definitely in the know. He also confirms that Jesse says he doesn't want to play this year.

But he's a teenager, and a lot can change between now and the end of February.

I only hope he changes his mind very soon, since telling everyone you're quitting is a great way to get your name scratched off a lot of colleges' lists. This is a kid who definitely has the goods to pitch at the D-1 level.

What do you think of Bergemesca?

How are Noah and Scott....I've not seen them in a couple years.....good kids....are they going to continue to play at the next level?

You can see the response on Scotty; a great student/athlete (his mom and pop are friends of ours and I am sure they are as proud as can be). I have heard that Noah is not necessarily interested in continuing to play, which I think is a pity.

I have also heard that both of them are working on their pitching mechanics because it looks like South Lakes may struggle on the mound this year. While this may not seem like anything special on the face of it, I am really impressed that they would take it upon themselves to work on those things to help their high school team win ball games....

I don't have a dog in this hunt. I was just looking over the new posts, and I have to whole heartedly agree with Midlo Dad! I subscribe to PG Crosschecker. I pay because I value the info and think it is a fair deal. I assume it is copyrighted? To take that info and post it publicly is just plain immoral! Your analogy was spot on! It is intellectual property, and the "theft" of it is no less wrong than the theft of any other property.
