Natural -

---------------------------

With the exception of Zach Lee, Matt Lipka, and Daryn Alves, most 2010 pitchers have not made a huge contribution to Varsity pitching yet.

How about we throw in some results from the Metro Scout League's Scout Day.....

Pitcher Velocity
1. Vance Woodruff/Forney/91mph
2. Ben Grisz/St. Marks/90mph
3. Jake Feckley/Wylie HS/89mph
3. James Foster/TCA/89mph
3. Mitchell Pitts/FM Marcus/89mph
4. Travis Ballew/Rockwall/88mph

I realize that all the top upperclass prospects did not participate in the MSL but this is a pretty good group.

CS and Natural....like 2 pages ago???

CS -- as you know, this happens every year at this time -- everyone trying to get a name out there. And there is always a group of well-intentioned fans that believe their favorite players that dominated their summer age group will no doubt dominate area varsity games. HS baseball has generally been considered 2nd rate......until the youngsters find themselves on a freshmen or JV team (which is usually the best spot for them in the first place).

Well, in another week or so, we'll begin to see results.

Cool
Let them have their fun, or should we go back and pull up posts from the your kids early years? I remember the samething going on back in the day. Anyway there are always a select few who do make an impact like Natural mentioned. I think Zach Lee's freshman teammate, Matt Lipka, was 9-4A Offensive Player of the year or some superlative like that. There were a couple of others if I recall - just can't think of their names.

So maybe there should be a disclaimer, like "no really, your kid has to be good as according to the oldtimers on this board" before you post. Works for me!
Tigerbalm - I can assure you that you can check my early posts, middle posts and new posts and you will NEVER see a time where I reference my kid and rarely have I ever referenced my kid's school.

Everyone can have their fun, I just think it would be appropriate to add in some MSL figures since these are tangible results of "Top Area Pitchers".

I will be happy to add Matt Lipka and Daryn Alves to my original post. And, as you mentioned, I am sure there are others that have contributed to Varsity pitching as a Freshman that I am not aware of.

TB -- maybe we've all become older and wiser over the years. Natural doesn't promote his son here, I don't, and CS doesn't. And I have no evidence to believe that these posts include parents promoting their own (I don't really care if they do). You're certainly right that these topics occur annually....that's why some are dusting off the cobwebs of 2-yr old topics.
Whooaa! I meant no disrespect. I just say let them run their mouths - the cream will always rise. For an old ****, whose kid has hung up the cleats, it is entertaining to pick out a few younguns to follow. How do you find out about these kids - your organization, PG, or perhaps someone mentions them on HSBBWeb. Anyway that's how I get my jollies.

Coach determines the rotation.
Collikar is right...the head coach determines the rotation but they most likely don't know what it will be at this point. I saw situations last year at this time where players started out on JV and ended up as All District on varsity.

If you want to have some fun analyzing who you think will be in a particular high school's starting rotation, you should look at the following to make an educated guess:

- who is returning on varsity
- how did they do in Spring 2007
- what honors did they receive (i.e. All District, MVP, etc.)
- are they a college signee or projected to be
- will they be able to stay academically eligible
- etc.

The easiest way to find out is to simply pick up the phone and call the head coach.

This is all true and does go into finding the top of your rotation. I would move you list a little and this is how mine might look....

- will they be able to stay academically eligible

- how did they do in Spring 2007

- what honors did they receive (i.e. All District, MVP, etc.)

- are they a college signee or projected to be

- Are they a returning varsity player

-etc....

Throwing in the 90's and "pitching" are different. I would take a crafty kid pitching in the 70's to 80's
before I would go for a kid throwing in the 90's. Speed means nothing if he cannot place it. JMO..

I am not knocking the kids; I hope they do well.

I agree dfwdad08...

A kid that can hit spots throwing mid 70's to low 80's and make the offensive team hit ground balls is more valuable to me than a kid that can throw in the mid to upper 80's but you never know where the pitch might be going or it gets hit harder than it is thrown.

Now if you can hit upper 80's and your spots then that is an awesome bonus for any coach

I saw Josh McClendon pitch against us last Wednesday and he looked very impressive as did both of Wylie's other top pitchers (Feckley & ??). I was glad Frisco Centennial got a chance to face their top 3 in a scrimmage last week as it will only help make us a better team. Wylie is definitely loaded on the hill this year.
Badman......I'm hearing some really good things about Centennial so far this year. It sounds like you guys just might crack the top 3 this year and get your taste of the playoffs for the first time.

How has BadmanSon looked so far this year? I enjoyed watching him pitch last year. It's amazing how much better these kids get in a years time.

Good luck to you guys this spring. Tell Liba and Padden hello! Couple of old teammates of OPson!
OP, Yes I am pleased with the progress and the way the Titans are playing this early in the season. Little Badman has worked hard in the off-season with Danny Florence and it has certainly paid off so far in his two starts against JJ Pearce and Wylie but it is very early. I will certainly tell Liba and Padden you said hello as both are great kids and Badman's Son is lucky to have them roaming the outfield behind him. Cracking the top 3 is going to be a challenge for sure as our District is loaded and should be a lot of fun this year with the competition very close as there are 5 Teams that could easily crack the top 3. I was at your game last week against Plano (as ours was postponed) and saw OP's son looking dominant and in mid-season form. I just hope he is not on the mound when Badman's Son pitches against Bulldogs this season. We get to play against each other 3 times this season as I see we are in your Tournament Bracket next week. Of course I expect both Coaches to play it pretty close to the vest since it is not District Play. Good Luck this season! Many of the Bulldogs players have been Badmans Son's Teammantes on his Frozen Ropes Team. Crump, Carter, Diaz, AJ & Kindle.

Too bad the scouts don't see it that way.
