Thanks guys. I have a buddy whose son is not getting playing time at his public school. He is better than many of the players on the team ( in IMHO- we played the team 3 times). The coaches seem to favor kids from there local summer team and even though the kid does well when he plays he hasn't been given more playing time. The kid does want to stick it out, but they are looking at his options, sitting out his junior year is not one of them. Thanks agian.
Perhaps he doesn't need to go anywhere else. Underclass coaches are often not the final decision in who plays and who doesn't, so hopefully the Varsity Coach will see him differently than the underclass coaches.

Regardless he has lost nothing so far and if he continues to play on the top-ranked travel team he will continue to improve maybe to the point where the HS Coaches can't keep him off the field. He will also get more chances to continue his playing on a higher level through The Travel Team as well. Most important question is "where does he want to go to school?" not "where does he want to play baseball?"

Our school used to be a top-flight baseball school and kids quite often had to wait until senior year to get a lot of playing time. And some of those players were darned good. Sometimes it wasn't how good you were, but how good the guy in front of you was.

Let me rephrase the question ... suppose any player

I was looking for a more abstract answer, nothing specific to this situation.

Although, I find it difficult that a kid could be going to private school and their parent loses a job, so the kid has to leave the school and enroll in public school. Then the parent finds work and puts the kid back into private school, only to find out that they are ineligible to play.

Can this be avoided by getting the waivers signed?
I agree that a parent or child should not be penalized for wanting to change there situation. Unfortunatly the bad apples that recruited kids and such have ruined it for everyone. I believe the kid will end up sticking it out, and like Ratboy said his chances will be with summer team and hopefully Varsity coaches are dif than sophomore. Kid is a honors student and both are good schools.
The vast amount of basketball recruiting in the past by certain private schools in Chicago has resulted in everyone becoming a cynic in this area. (Now they just transfer willy nilly each year from one private school to the next or private to public.) No matter how justified someone may feel about the need for tranfering, their attempt to switch from public to private will be examined very closely by those who have to approve it. Not worth the effort.
