UMBC is a very solid program. Coach Jancuska has been there for many years, after a nice playing career at Univ. of Delaware. His top assistant, Bob Mumma, was an All-American catcher in the early 90's, and played a year or two in the minors.

The baseball team seems to have cycles of good years, and not so good years. The field is pretty nice, but nothing spectacular. Rather short dimensions, but high fence makes it no gimme. The Baseball Factory has put a lot of money into the field (lights for example) and use the field when the college team isn't playing or practicing.

The school is terrific. Math and Science are the specialties, but many disciplines are available. Social life at the school seems to be pretty good as well. High caliber s****r and lacrosse programs draw lots of fans.
I start by saying that I don't know Coach Jancuska (other than a couple of 'hi ya, Coach' greetings at various baseball events. But the players I know who have played/still play for him speak highly of him. He evidently is a straight-laced guy who has the respect of his team, although he's not the most aggressive recruiter, I'm told. For what it's worth.

I would take a look at their schedule and notice that all their conference opponents are north - some far north - of here. Lots of travel and, my guess is mostly by bus.

From the outside, it seems like a good program run by good people.
