Our community just had a brohaha over plans for a socially distant graduation — district planned to create a video of each kid walking to get his or her diploma, speakers, music, etc., then on the day already scheduled over Memorial day, they would broadcast it on a pair of jumbotrons, so students could drive in with families, watch it and then listen to the broadcast on their radios. Kids opted for the possibility of an in-person graduation in June instead.

My daughter is getting her masters and bachelors on Saturday via a virtual graduation. We've invited friends to drive by our house for an hour and just wave and say hi or drop cards in a basket at the end of the drive way. Still sad we're not getting the full blown celebration and party we had planned, but glad we're able to do something.

How are you or your communities planning to celebrate your senior in the age of pandemic?

My daughter just graduated from college.  She is still in Atlanta (we're in SoCal) but the ceremony was cancelled.  We had a family zoom session with about 30 relatives from all over the country and showed a 4 minute video collage of her time in college, told stories, made toasts.  It ended up lasting over an hour.  It was really fun and she thought it was an amazing way to celebrate, considering the circumstances.

Love this; I have a son graduating college, I hadn't thought ahead to how to celebrate, but this would be great.  I like the idea of toasts; our family zooms have been a little incoherent so far.

I love the toasts too. My daughter and I spent two weeks in France drinking champagne together. I have a couple of bottles for us to share at graduation, but hadn't thought of toasts. That's a great addition.

We put together a baseball video for the seniors. A highlight clip of each, followed by a video from their parents and the kids did one to their parents, along with lots of pictures from the last four years.  We set up a 20 foot outdoor screen and did a “drive in” for senior night.  Everyone ended up pulling out chairs and watching together. It was nice to have a somewhat normal end.

My son is graduating from HS and goes to a boarding school. Everyone has been home since mid-march, when spring break started. So, they just sent out the plans for festivities yesterday.  They will mail cap and gown, any honor society cords, and diplomas to your home. Starting Monday, we can print out lawn signs. We have our virtual baseball banquet on June 1st.  We sent in little league pics so expecting a tear-jerker video montage. Virtual graduation will be the day it should have been live, June 5th. So, they will announce the names and such.  At least our family can watch it remotely with us and we can have our immediate family together to celebrate.  I'm so glad we will have his cap and gown for pics. The ones the school took earlier were after practice and gowns over they're uniforms since they did those pics at the same time. Not the best.

So, I'm glad to hear how others will be celebrating in this bizarro world we're living in. Here's hoping Fall semesters start normally and those graduating college can start or find jobs.

Heavy sigh. Keep smiling and stay hopeful everyone!!
