Timely question.

For us, each sport has its own traditions, but honestly it is up to the parents to make it happen. Our Diamond club helps pay for a little. We have a small ceremony prior to the game, each senior is called on to the field to meet with mom and dad and he gives mom a flower. (Paid for by Diamond Club).

The parents (actually the captain's moms this year) coodinate taking a portrait of each boy, which we blow up and frame and hang on the stands with balloons.  We made goodie bags for each of them also. And parents bring baked goods / drinks for a small party after.

From my daughter's years, I know that girls teams get more into it. Decorate the senior cards, presents to the Captians from the junior girls, etc.

All I want is sunshine (or atleast NOT 39 degree weather) and a nice "W" for my son's final home game on the bump. Is that asking too much???

I think there was another recent thread on this somewhere on this board....

Senior night is Thursday and it is supposed to be 90 degrees!  Finally!  (but I am not putting the blankets away quite yet...it was 46 degrees when I got up this morning.)

At the last home game, Senior players and managers are announced, escorted by mom and dad, and mom is given a flower.  A blurb is read about the player and his plans after high school.  Picture is taken.  I am not aware of any costs to the player or their family (at least not to us last year).   One year, the senior recognition was at a benefit game at our local AA stadium.

There is a separate sports (catered) banquet for all spring sports.

Our son's senior day will be very similar to baseballmomandcep's.   Our baseball announcer will undoubtedly add some color commentary to the ceremony

Recently, my son played a non-district game on a Saturday at a school I've never been to.   They spray-painted the seniors jersey numbers on the grass behind home plate.  I thought that was really cool, and a fantastic touch by the school.

The school I'm at now has the parents escort their player onto the field where the moms are given a flower and little bio is read.

When I was head coach in Kentucky we did pretty much the same thing but the players got an personalized bat from Louisville Slugger.  It wasn't as expensive as you think and our guys / parents loved it.

Senior night is different for each sport.  For baseball there is a small ceremony prior to the game where each senior is announced and escorted by his parents to the baseline.  Included is the senior's future plans (college, military, unsure, etc) and their favorite activity - usually something silly like "enjoys raking the infield dirt around 1B" (my son).  The seniors also receive a nice 11x7 action photo of them in a game that season.  The seniors in turn present their parents with a small token.  For us it was a small trophy in the shape of a glove with a baseball personalized by the player.  It's one of my favorite "trophies".  Those two items are usually funded by the booster club.

Another nice touch is during the pregame line up introductions, the PA announcer specifically announces the seniors - "Batting third and playing first base, Senior Joe Smith".  Same during the game, "Now batting, Senior......."

Not to put a jinx, Senior night has not always been a good night for our baseball team.  Until last year, it was usually a losing affair.  Last year the team was on its way to a playoff run and mercy ruled our opponent that night.

I hear ya on the sunshine.  Weather has been weird this year.  Even for Virginia.  Quite a few rainouts.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.   Our new varsity coach doesn't miss a trick as he borrowed this idea from one of the private schools and applied it to our senior day.  He requested our seniors jersey numbers be chalked between home plate and the backstop during our senior ceremony and cook out yesterday.   Our seniors were announced with their parents and pictures taken near their numbers.  We've been part of the program with 2 kids and 8 years, and that was the best senior night we've seen.  Those kids will remember that moment.....and we won 5-4 with their tying 3rd out at the plate.
