My youngest son is a 3 sport athlete. He is a 6'3"/210 lb. sophomore who has already been looked at by a number of people in baseball. He is a RHP pitcher that plays the corners on his Varsity team and plays for one of the top select teams in the country. He plays basketball and we have been told he will most likely play Varsity as well. He also plays football as thier tight end and kicker.
So here we are sitting across from our beautiful son Sunday evening and we are being informed that he thinks his future is as a Football kicker. Father has mild heart attack and mom just pats his hand. Now don't get me wrong we want our son to be sucessful in school (he has been on honor roll all of last year) and all that but now we are in new territory. Our boys have always played baseball at a high level and the oldest jsut started college on a baseball scholarship. We know what to expect n the baseball world. Anyhow when husband was able to talk again he asked our son why he felt that way and he informed us of this" I can kick the ball farther than anyone the coaches have ever seen, I'm accurate and the colleges have 69 football scholarships and less than 12 baseball scholarships. One way or another I am going to college on an athletic scholarship"

Interesting as I looked at this young man I realized he is thinking ahead.....I wonder what happened to my son that won't pick up his underwear off the bathroom floor. Now I have to figure out how to get him a couple of lessons for football in between baseball games this summer.

You might want to give him the good news; Div 1 football teams actually have 85 scholarships and the bad; about 20-25 scholarships are given out each year per school and they are rarely used on kickers. Let's say every Div 1 school uses 1 of their schollys on kickers each year (a generous guestimate), NOW how likely are his chances to be on scholarship in football versus baseball?

Granted, if he does get a football scholly, it will be a full ride but I'm willing to bet, his chances are greater he gets money for baseball. You need to do more research but that's just my guess.
If your son plays football and baseball and is good, could be a possibility they would take him as a two sport athlete. His scholarship would be paid by football and the baseball coach would save money and on the 11.7 scholarship. Happens all of the time.
However, due to overlap in schedules, workouts classes eventually one suffers. I know a football player at sons school who played baseball, left the team a few years ago, he was pretty good, but more succesful in football than in baseball.

Whatever it may be, let your son follow his dream.
