From a MLB article about whether or not to open up the roof:

Altercation: Craig and Patty Biggio decided not to press charges against a fan who apparently took a swipe at the second baseman's wife toward the end of Game 2 of the World Series at U.S. Cellular Field.

The fan, standing behind Patty Biggio and her brother, acted belligerently throughout much of the game, according to an Astros official. When the game ended, the fan reportedly smacked her on the back of her head as she got up to leave.

Security immediately apprehended the fan, but the Biggios did not press charges, citing it as an isolated incident.

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen apologized to Biggio on behalf of the White Sox organization, and several Astros officials said Sunday's incident in no way tarnished what was a very hospitable welcome from Chicago fans during their stay.

"It was one stupid fan that I know of," manager Phil Garner said. "My wife told me we had a lot of fans around where she was sitting that enjoyed in the festivities and didn't get rowdy to any of our people.

"I did not hear about any other incidents. I heard good things from other people. This is one incident that I'm aware of where one fan was stupid."

As I geared up for my hell's angel's like trip to Madison, I couldn't resist the chance to be of some help in defending Patti Biggio from a very obnoxious cub fan seated directly behind her.

We get these guys all the time at Comiskey. The Police took my report just after I saw them write him up. I was shocked to see that he was from Evanston, more shocked as I recognized itsrosy while his mug shot was taken.

All is well though as another cub fan attending the game with him was able to bail him out after Craig and Patti refused to press charges.

I've told itsrosy not to hang with ballfan at Comiskey, bur alas, he could not resist the urge to harass people that in his mind, cost his beloved cubs.................2nd place!!!!

After FrankF's post, I assume we will see an apology to sluggo from BeenthereIL & TRhit?

BeenthereIL, do you not perhaps think the answer to your question might well be self-evident?

And I don't understand why some feel that what someone puts in their profile should bar them from participating on this site.

-----

What do I need to apologize for? I didn't see anything locally yesterday or on the "news". That is all that I said.

Saw an item in the sports pages this morning; and, in my opinion, the fact that they didn't prosecute anyone says it all. Sluggo's choice of the word "attacked" had me believing that she was somehow sexually assaulted. That is why I was concerned about what was written.

The guy likely had a couple of beers and acted like a moron (As if that doesn't happen in Houston?)...Probably jokingly tapped her on the back of the head as he was leaving after a SPECTACULAR ENDING to a game!

Liked Biggio's "bravado", however. Problem with that is he's about 5'9", 175# and the mope could have been 6'3", 350#...Should be careful for what you ask, you may get it one day.

Go White Sox! If Oswalt beats them, then Sox in 5. If they beat Oswalt, Sox in 4.

Apologize for what-- I said I had seen nothing regarding it-- not to mention the fact that Mrs Biggio was not attacked--she was "bumped" in the back of the head--where I come from, and it isnt Texas, that is not an attack

When a person puts items in their profile such as "stagemom" it makes me wonder, exepcially being the cynic that I am. By the way arent you the individual that touched base with me a while back but owuld not tell me your name etc--I have a "thing" about taking with people who refuse to identify themselves to me.

It has been explained several times. So I can only conclude that there is a problem with reading comprehension or you are still mightily hung up on that.

And both your & BeenthereIL's responses certainly indicated to me that you were doubting sluggo's credibility. As though if you two hadn't heard about it, it couldn't have happened.

Have a nice day.
True story:

On my 40th birthday (many moons ago) - I went to a Yankee game with my best buddy. We had pretty nice seats - down the 3rd base line about 15 rows back.

Yankees were losing - and in about the 7th or 8th inning (cant remember) - a drunken Yankee fan smacked a woman (not really that hard - but with some intent) in the back of the head. She was seated right next to me - and I remember her spilling her soda all over me.

In what seemed like only 15 seconds - that dude took one of the worst beatings I have ever seen - and heres the kicker - it was other Yankee fans that pounded him like a veal cutlet.

LOL

I think that would have been appropriate here as well.

BTW, the report said she was "smacked" not "bumped". And I suppose it would be all right if your wife was smacked on the back of the head? Perhaps in CT, husbands consider that okay. We think differently in how ladies are to be treated in Texas. And it is rather obvious that you are not from Texas, that didn't have to be stated (no pun intended).

And as a further note to BeenthereIL, I have never heard of an opposing player's wife being smacked, bumped or otherwise being rudely treated in the Astrodome or MinuteMaid.
Texan

Back here here it would not even get to the end of the game---the "mouth behind me" would have been escorted out way before that or he would have been "sleeping" in his seat

Dont get into the "morals" of texans and CT people---you keep casting aspersions on people but yet you the texan are not man enough to tell me who you are--I guess in texas that is ok--no offense to other Texans but I have no problem with most Texans just certain of them like you--

A lot of things you dont hear--
WOW!..."Same old same old from the same old same olds"...Read the first three posts of this thread again. I propose (from someone who does not "have a dog in this fight") that the balance of the thread would have been somewhat different with a large number of other posters. There was no "slight" indicated in the initial post(merely an inquiry). It was created by the posts thereafter, plain and simple. My shoulders would give me constant pain if I were to have to carry the chips that some apparently have... Razz

I have often wondered how visiting wives are treated at games. There are some pretty unruly crowds out there. I for one think the Biggios should have pressed charges, if for no other reason than to make a point. As far as Sluggo's post, thanks for the info, because I did not hear about this. What a shame. Anyway, I appreciate it, as far as a "Stage Mom", I think we all are. LOL. Anyway, lets all get along, and move along. This topic has reached it's end.
Texan, I have to agree with you. No one should ever be "run off" or bullied not to post. Everyone has their own say, and I appreciate and read all of them. You just can't get caught up in the "reading between the lines", stuff that sometimes goes on. Water off a ducks back. This site has been a tremendous wealth of information for me and my family, don't ever forget that. It is super for the "High School Baseball family". My son has benefited so much from the information gained here. Although sometimes people say things that can be misconstrued or taken out of context, especially when written. It is the knowledge gained that we come here to read.
