Son Stepping up his Game ONGOING PROCESS

So far a good summer, know our team is better than our record shows but the boys are doing well in a lot of other aspects that are not reflective in the record. KUDO's to Coach Alford.

Here's my approach at finding out if I had a successful summer season:

1) Evaluate my biggest "hole" from HS ball. (What do I need to work on the most)

2)Since I'm a pitcher, each year I try to find a new way to set up a certain pitch for a K. If my new method is effective during games, then this is a check.

3) Work on, improve, and show better results in my previous weak area.

4) Play with all I've got day in and day out.

5) Willingly or forceably spend time with the parents on long trips across the country whether it be by car or plane. (I mean, I guess I should give them SOME credit. HA Big Grin)

6) Know my teammates are going to do anything to help me and the rest of the team no-matter what the situation is.

7) Spend team bonding time in hotels.

8) Have no regrets of anything I did the past summer.

If all these things fall into place like they usually do, then once again I will have a successful summer.

OH! and ya... getting a win or two here and there always helps the cause.

Dtiger - I'll bet your parents are proud of your work ethic and healthy attitude. I'm sure you will have a successful summer.

For me? When the season ends and our team is already asking when the work outs are for fall ball. If our boys are asking it means the season was successful. The boys bonded like a team. Enjoyed the travel and built a lot of memories.

And who am I kidding? A string of wins tops it off nicely too. (wink)
I am going to get my son to answer this question so I will know what he thinks and compare it to my thoughts.

From my point of view, becoming more consistent with doing the right things....including bringing something to drink to the game and especially icing his arm without being told after he pitches.

Learning how to become part of a team on and off the field. Learning to lead and knowing when to follow. Learning how to deal with success and with failure.

I must also stress that by the end of the summer that it is important to be part of a winning organization. Some times that means watching the team play better and better without the W but in reality it does mean learning how to win and to really develop a distaste for losing.

Winning is important and learning how to win is something that needs to be taught and highlighted. Part of that is pointing out why you lost, was the team that beat you today better and why or were there correctable errors.

So far this year has been very successful. The organization that my boy plays for is first class and I think all the boys and parents appreciate their approach to developing boys into young men.

I’ll have my son answer for himself later.

Hi everyone this is Meat.

To me a successful summer is that a team comes together to play the game to the best of their abilities. there are many things that need to happen to make this possible.

One is that there should be no selfishness. all teammates should root for eachother no matter if they're getting pinch hit for or gettin pulledb/c they made a mistake.

success also come from learning what you should do in certain situations. And if you have made a mistake, you should learn for from it and not repeat that mistake again.

success comes from all the little things. the big thing handle themselves.knowing what to do when someone bunts or in a steal and stop, knowing the priority out in the situation.

winning is great, losing can be good, if you learn from the mistakes that you made. but losing is bad if you take nothing away from it.
